High speed collision with a cement truck destroyed most of the front portion of the vehicle. Neither passenger nor driver airbag deployed and seat belts did not lock up, injuring the driver. No warning lights indicating an airbag problem appeared prior to crash. The vehicle is now impounded at towing company yard pending insurance investigation.

STEERING COLUMN SEPERATED AT THE TILT COLUMN PIVOT JOINT. TOTAL STEERING LOST. THE COLLAPSIBLE COLUMN SECTION ALLOWED THE PIVOT JOINT RETENTION TO DISSENGAGE ALSO SLIDE TOWARD ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE ARE TWO SET SCREWS, THAT WORK LOOSE (GOOGLE SEARCH OF ISSUE RESULTED IN LOTS OF DOCUMENTED CASES), AND SET SCREWS FELL OUT AND TOTAL STEERING COLUMN SHAFT SEPERATED AT PIVOT JOINT. NO INJURY, BUT ONLY DUE TO REMOTE COUNTY ROAD AT 7AM WITH NO TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WENT INTO DITCH VS ONCOMIN

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, A SECOND VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. DURING THE CRASH, THE SEATBELT FAILED TO SECURE THE DRIVER AND A NECK INJURY WAS SUSTAINED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE.
