The 1993GMCPICK UP carries 11 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1993 PICK UP is visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor with 3 filings, followed by engine and engine cooling:engine:gasoline (1) and service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:rotor (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 1993 PICK UP. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. THE WIND HIELD WIPERS FAIL TO WORK 99% OF THE TIME DUE TO A WIRING PROBLEM (IT APPEARS). YOU CAN GET UNDER THE HOOD AND TOUCH THE WIPER MOTOR AND WIRING A NUMBER OF PLACES AND THEY WILL WORK. SOMETIMES JUST TOUCHING THE WIRING JACK WILL DO THE SAME, YET WHEN YOU TURN LOOSE THEY WILL STOP. WHEN THEY DO WORK YOU MUST HAVE THEM ON HIGH, THEN A LOT OF THE TIME THEY WORK AS IF THEY ARE ON DELAY, OR THEY WILL NOT WORK AT ALL. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND LET ME KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS. IT IS A SAFTY HAZARD NOT HAVING WIPERS WHEN IT'S RAINING/WHEN SOMEONE PASSES YOU AND HIT'S A WATER PUDDLE, AND IT SPLASHES ON YOUR WINDSHILED AND THEY WILL NOT WORK TO CLEAN IT OFF. *AK
