TREAD SEPERATION IN PHANTOM A/P TIRE THAT WAS MANAUFACTURED WITHIN TIME PERIOD OF NHTSA ACTION #PE02056. SUBSTANTIAL PHYSICAL INJURY TO 72 YEAR OLD DRIVER AND TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. RIMKUS CONSUTLING SERVICES EXPERT GARRET MITCHELL MADE THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSIONS: 1.A DEFECT IN THE LEFT-REAR TIRE ON THE CHEVROLET CAUSED THE TREAD TO SEPARATE FROM THE CARCASS. THIS IS MY WIFES CAR AND THIS ABS DRAKE PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FIXED AT THE TIME OF RECALL,BUT I WAS DRIVING IT DEC. 9 2000 WHEN I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES .AT FRIST THE DRAKES LOCKED UP WHEN THE PEDAL PULSED AND THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BARKES AT ALL. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE PEOPLE FROM GMC TO PUT THERE WIFE AND KIDS IN THIS CAR AND LET THEM DRIVE IT FOR A WEEK OR TWO. *AK
ABS BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH. CONSUMER CONDUCTED RECALL SEARCH, AND CONTACTED DEALERSHIP REGARDING THIS. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL, HOWEVER LATER STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN RECALLS 99V193000 AND 99I006000. DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE REFUSING TO PERFORM ANY WORK ON ABS SYSTEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK

WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT ON DRY PAVEMENT MY BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT AN ACURA INTEGRA. LUCKILY I HAD SLOWED DOWN TO 15MPH BEFORE THE BRAKED FAILED. THIS MAKES THE 3 TIME I HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA AND THE SECOND TIME TO GMC. IT ALSO MAKES ABOUT THE 8 TIME BRAKE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED. LUCKILY I HAVE NEVER BEEN HURT.
