THE TIRE IN QUESTION SUFFERED TREAD SEPARATION WHILE I WAS STATIONED IN SWITZERLAND WITH THE U.S. FOREIGN SERVICE AND DRIVING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN GERMANY. THE TIRES WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE CAR, WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN THE U.S. I DROVE THE CAR FROM 1993-1994 IN GUYANA, A TROPICAL COUNTRY IN SOUTH AMERICA. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION, ESPECIALLY AFTER BEING DRIVEN IN HOT CLIMATES, I DECIDED TO REPORT MY 1995 ACCIDENT. THE BLOWOUT CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR, WHICH VEERED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SLID INTO A MILEPOST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CAR NEARLY FLIPPED -- WHEN IT STRUCK THE MILEPOST IT LEANED OVER ON TWO WHEELS BEFORE SETTLING BACK ON FOUR. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE -- THERE WAS NO PROXIMATE CAUSE FOR THE TREAD SEPARATION -- AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER THERE IS ANY POSSIBLE CONNECTION TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 75 MPH RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AND TREAD SEPARATED. WEEK AFTER, SAMETHING HAPPENED WITH RIGHT FRONT TIRE. AT THAT TIME TIRE DID NOT GO FLAT RIGHT AWAY. UNIROYAL TIRES, SIZE 195/75R15. *AK
