DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON A RAIN SLICKED ROAD, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS PRE BRAKING PRIOR TO THE IMPACT. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEATBELT, BUT NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS MODERATE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE NOT ALERTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A BODY REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED.

THE CAR NOW NEEDS REAR WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY...NOTHING TO DO WITH WHEEL FALLING OFF...NORMAL WEAR. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE REAR WHEEL, SPINDLE, BEARING AND DRUM ASSEMBLY AS THE 1995 RECALLED METRO HCHBC W/O ABS. GM SAYS IS HAS THE UPDATED ASSEMBLY. I ORDER AND THEY SEND THE PARTS. THE BEARING HUB DRUM ASSEMBLY ARE NOW SEPARATE IN THE UPDATED VERSION. THEY SEND ME THE NEW BEARING/HUB...BUT THE DRUM, MINUS THE BEARING FROM THE ONE THAT DOES NOT EXIST SINCE 1995... THEY SAY THE NUMBERS ARE WRONG IN WAREHOUSING,,BUT NOT WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED... I ORDER AND THEY SEND THE CORRECT DRUM....HOWEVER THE COMPLETE ASSEMBLY WITH DRUM IS TOO LARGE FOR THE SPINDLE, WHICH CONTAINS THE OTHER BRAKING COMPONENTS. THE WINDOW DEFROST BLOWER MOTOR FAILS TO WORK AFTER STARTING THE CAR. ALSO THE REAR WINDOW ELECTRIC DEFROST FAILS. THIS COULD LEAD TO IMPAIRED VISIBILITY DURING WINTER OR RAIN CONDITIONS WHEN THE WINDSHIELD FOGS OR ICES UP. THERE IS AN APPARENT SHORT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAUSING THIS. AFTER ENGAGING THE STARTER, THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILS TO RETURN TO THE PROPER POSITION FOR THE ABOVE ACCESSORIES TO WORK. THE DRIVER MUST JIGGLE THE KEY AND IGNITION SWITCH BACKWARDS TO ALMOST THE OFF POSITION TO RESTORE POWER TO THE BLOWER MOTOR AND REAR DEFROST. SOMETIMES, WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD THE DEFROST BLOWER MOTOR STOPS WHEN HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IN ADDITION TO THIS, MY WIFE ONCE SMELLED AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AFTER TRYING TO START THE CAR. AFTER READING ABOUT THE NHTSA RECALL OF CHEV. CAVALIERS FOR FAULTY IGNITION SWITCHES (CAMPAIGN ID #04V036000), I WONDERED IF THIS IS A RELATED SAFETY PROBLEM.
