The 2018GENESISG90 carries 21 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 3 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall Not Rated/5 rating, with Not Rated/5 front crash, Not Rated/5 side crash, and Not Rated/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2018 G90 is electrical system with 5 filings, followed by engine (4) and fuel/propulsion system (2). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 4 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
No open NHTSA investigation overlaps the 2018 G90 in the current dataset. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

On 01/16/22 at approximately 2305 hours, I was driving north on PA 743. I was traveling approximately 40 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone due to snowy weather conditions. One adult was in the front passenger seat, 2 children were in car seats in the rear driver and passenger side. The road was level and straight. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, every warning light in the dashboard illuminated at once. The LED screen was rapidly displaying messaged such as, "blind spot monitoring system malfunction, smart BDS braking system malfunction, check smart high beam, check PSB, shifter malfunction, traction control malfunction, ESC malfunction, ABS malfunction, etc...". Immediately after traction control malfunctioned, the vehicle violently fishtailed, as if on the receiving end of a PIT maneuver, and crossed over the south bound lane. It continued off of the roadway and into a ditch, stopping several feet away from a fence. At that point, nothing was functional. Restarting the vehicle multiple ti

In the last 8,000 miles the car has stopped cold (about 15 times) when pulling out from a stop. When pulling out the car goes about 3 feet and stops dead. The gas pedal is dead for 1-2 sections, then it responds. The car has almost killed me and my wife several times. The car is under warranty and has been to dealer's service departments 3 times. They claim the computer does not show anything. They refused to attempt an inspection or do any repairs since they can not reproduce the problem and it does not show on their computer. I has contacted costumer service and have no success. THIS IS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HAS THE CAPACITY TO KILL PEOPLE. This started happening soon after we purchased the vehicle on 02/15/20 and persists to 10/10/21.

MY CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED PURSUANT TO NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 19V-538. DESPITE MAKING FOUR SEPARATE ATTEMPTS, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET GENESIS TO PERFORM THE RECALL. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON ,EVERY TRIP WE TAKE. AFTER ABOUT 500 MILES AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON STAYS ON FOR UP TO 1000 MILES THEN GOES OUT AGAIN. LIGHT WILL COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND THEN STAYS ON EVEN WHEN STOPPED AND PARKED OVER NIGHT WHILE BEING USED ON HIGHWAY. AIR BAG WARNING WILL TURN OFF WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON AT LEAST 4 TIMES AND STILL CONTINUES DOING THIS. THIS COULD BE A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM IF AN ACCIDENT. GENESIS SEEMS TO BE UNABLE TO FIX. *TR CONSUMER STATED WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THAT I HAVE HAD 28 ALERTS MOST ON AIR BAG FAILURE IN 20 MONTHS. BECAUSE I LEASED THE GENESIS G90 IN ARIZONA, THERE IS NO PROTECTION UNDER LEMON LAW. REQUEST THE ADMINISTRATION LOOK INTO A LEMON LAW ON LEASED VEHICLES. I HAVE A CAR THAT EVERY TIME WE TAKE IT ON A TRIP THE AIR BAGS GO OUT. GENESIS SAYS TOO BAD WE WILL RESET LIGHT OR REPAIR EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS, AND THEY DO. HOWEVER WE RIDE ON TRIPS WITH NO AIR BAGS ON A NEW CAR. *JB
