The 2017GENESISG90 carries 31 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 4 crashes, 0 fires, 3 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall Not Rated/5 rating, with Not Rated/5 front crash, Not Rated/5 side crash, and Not Rated/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2017 G90 is engine with 5 filings, followed by electrical system (4) and unknown or other (4). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
No open NHTSA investigation overlaps the 2017 G90 in the current dataset. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

November 2, 2025 at 12:19 PM, I received a call from the owner, Jose, who accused me of âassaultâ against his employee Toniâdespite the fact that I have never been physically near Toni. Iâve only been calling to follow up on the unresolved safety issues: no fluids, bad brakes (which they claimed to have repaired), and rear tires with no tread at all. When they repaired the brakes, I would have gladly purchased new tires had I been informed.â¨â¨On November 3rd at 8:23 PM, I found myself stranded on the side of the highway once againâthis time due to exposed tread and a large bubble on the tire. Itâs deeply troubling that a vehicle was sold in such unsafe condition. This raises serious questions about the sellerâs standards and accountability.â¨â¨November 5, 2023 at 12:33pm third flat tire and the spare blew out into pieces after one day.â¨â¨On November 8, 2025 at 11:30am, the second bald tire completely blew out while I was driving on 595. * Recall Campaign Number : [018G, 019G] I. Statement of Complaint This complaint concerns a failure in a critical safety-related component that was previously addressed under a mandatory manufacturer recall, and the subsequent refusal by the authorized dealership to provide a second no-charge repair for the same repeated failure. II. Chronology of Events * Original Recall Repair: Approximately thirteen (13) months ago, 8/30/2024 the vehicle was taken to Anaheim Hyundai to address a safety recall concerning the oil feed pipe. The prescribed remedy, a replacement of the oil feed pipe, was completed at no cost under the recall campaign. * Second Failure (Current Event): On or about 10/6/2025, while the vehicleâs engine was running, I observed smoke rising from the engine compartment. The vehicle was immediately taken to a local independent mechanic who diagnosed the issue as a burst oil feed pipeâthe identical component subject to the prior recall. * Attempted Repair at Anaheim H

Oil pressure sensor (sender) issue: Oil pressure sensor defect (after oil level was checked a few times due to this issue) cause unstable pressure (oil level warning lights comes on and off) depending on how fast I drive. Make me very worried if itâs going to cause engine issues. I hear this is a common issue with this vehicle and itâs located bottom corner of many components and cause a lot of money/time to get it fixed.
The check engine light keeps coming on. We had spark plugs changed and still keeps miss firing. We are unable to switch between drive modes smoothly. We have taken in for service numerous times.

Steering wheel sticks when making left or right turn. Have to manually return the steering wheel back to a straight/neutral position. Extremely dangerous! If you donât manually align the steering wheel quickly you will lose control, go off road, or hit another vehicle on any turn. Issue is consistent and wide spread problem among their vehicles after further investigation into the brand.

I have replaced my water pump and thermostat three times in my car in the last two years. I replaced the thermostat less thirty days ago and it still overheating. Southtowne Genesis Dealership in Newman, Georgia has been very rude and unprofessional to me. I need some help.
