The 2001FREIGHTLINERMT carries 3 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2001 MT is fuel system, other:storage with 1 filings, followed by structure:body:door (1) and suspension:front (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 38 investigation files overlapping the 2001 MT. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. THE CERTIFICATION LABEL ON THESE VEHICLES HAS INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE DATA. A TIRE PRESSURE RATING OF 110 PSI WAS LISTED FOR BOTH FRONT AND REAR TIRES. THE PROPER TIRE PRESSURE VALUES ARE 90 PSI FRONT AND 80 PSI REAR.
EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL:CARRIER/RACK
THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER HOIST COMPONENTS CAN BECOME LOOSE WHILE TRAVELING AND ALLOW THE SPARE TIRE TO MOVE FROM ITS STORED POSITION TO THE ROAD SURFACE.
FRONT SUSPENSION HAD A EXTREMELY VIOLENT VIBRITION. VIBRATION IS SO HARD IT HAS THROWEN PASSENGER OUT OF SEAT, AND IT BROKE A MIRROR, CONSUMER ALMOST TOTALLY LOST CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY. IT DID NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. *AK THE VIBRATION IS INITIATED WITH A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. *YH
