The 2006FREIGHTLINERM2 carries 3 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2006 M2 is service brakes, air with 2 filings, followed by exterior lighting (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 5 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 38 investigation files overlapping the 2006 M2. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

THIS FREIGHTLINER M2 HAS BEEN MADE INTO A MOTORHOME BY DYNAMAX CORP. THE CRUISE CONTROL AND BRAKE SYSTEM ARE FREIGHTLINER. I NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT ALWAYS DISENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND I HAD TO SWITCH IT OFF MANUALLY. UPON FURTHER CHECKING, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ALSO NOT COMING ON WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I CHECKED THE RECALLS AND THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WAS UNDER RECALL #10V178000. THE LOCAL FREIGHTLINER DEALER SAID MY VEHICLE DID NOT COME UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE IT USED DIFFERENT SWITCH. MY SWITCH IS A FORD #3F2T-13480-CR, UNDER THE NUMBER IS THE WORD POLLAK. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND ABOUT $550.00 LATER THE CRUISE CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS WORK AS THEY SHOULD. I THINK THAT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO FURTHER SINCE FREIGHTLINER OBVIOUSLY DID NOT IDENTIFY ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH THE FIRST RECALL. I HAVE THE SWITCH IF IT IS NEEDED FOR TESTING. *TR

THE REAR DRIVER SIDE CALIPERS WERE MALFUNCTIONING AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,450. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,400.
