ON CERTAIN MUSTANG COBRA PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE REAR SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH FLOOR CARPETING DURING HEAVY THROTTLE APPLICATION. THE UNIQUE SURFACE PROFILE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY CATCH IN THE CUTOUT ON THE FLOOR CARPETING BEHIND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.

Date of incident....sometime over night 1/27/24. Vehicle FIRE I believe started in electrical components. Happened overnight while PARKED in front of home in parking lot Melted left side of dash (all odometer area) and center console where AC controls and radio are. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 FORD MUSTANG. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN FROM A DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET AND WAS HIT WITH SPEED OVER 40MPH. COMPLETELY TOTALED THE FRONT END OF CAR AND BUCKLED THE HOOD SEVERELY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CONTACT STRUCK A ROUNDED CURB. THIS CAUSED A LARGE SLIT IN THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRES. THE DAMAGE WAS INEXPLICABLE BASED ON THE NATURE OF THE IMPACT. SEVERAL TIRE DEALERS STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS TYPE OF FAILURE NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THAT PARTICULAR TIRE BRAND AND MODEL. THE MOTOR STARTED RACING , AND THE ACCELERATOR STUCK WHILE THE DRIVER WAS BACKING, AND HE CRASHED INTO A MOVING CAR. THE POLICE CAME AND WROTE THE CONSUMER A TICKET FOR IMPROPER BACKING, BUT DID NOT WRITE A POLICE REPORT ON THE ACCIDENT.
