I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD WINDSTAR SEL 3 YEARS AGO AND HAVE HAD HELL WITH IT EVER SINCE. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY BEEN OWNED BY ONE OTHER PERSON AND HE HAD TO PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN IT RIGHT OVER 50,000 MILES. @ 130,000 MILES I TOO HAD TO PUT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION IN IT. NOW THE VAN HAS 160000 AND I AM AGAIN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL IN MY 1999 FORD WINDSTAR HAS BEEN GOING HAYWIRE SINCE MAY 2007. ALL THE NEEDLES WERE GOING ROUND AND ROUND WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD TAKEN IT TO GRIFFEN BROTHERS AND THEY CON NOT FIND A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ANYWHERE. THEY CALLED FORD MOTORS AND THEY WERE TOLD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS IN NATIONAL BACK ORDER. IF THEY ARE IN NATIONAL BACK ORDER, THAT MUST MEAN THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF THE SAME PROBLEMS EVERYWHERE. SHOULDN'T THIS HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE? ON AUGUST 30, 2007 GRIFFEN CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT THEY ORDERED ON 8/20, 2007. LAST NIGHT THE 1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION SUDDENLY WENT UP IN FLAMES FROM A FIRE THAT STARTED BY ITSELF UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS PARKED IN THE CARPORT NEXT TO THE TAHOE WHICH WE ALSO LOST DUE TO THE FIRE. THE FORD VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE IT WENT UP INTO FLAMES. WE LOST 2 VEHICLES AND OUR CARPORT. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR COULD NOT FIND THE EXACT CAUSE BECAUSE OF ALL THE DAMAGE. HOWEVER, WE KNEW WE WERE NOT ALONE IN THIS. THERE WAS A THREAD REPAIR INSERT IN CYLINDER #5 SPARK PLUG HOLE DONE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 15, 2005. LAST THURSDAY SEPT. 15TH IT BLEW AGAIN AS MY HUSBAND WAS LEAVING OUR HOME WITH OUR SON. THE HEAD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF DECIDING WHAT TO DO AS WE CAN'T AFFORD THIS $3,000 DOLLAR PROBLEM THAT IF YOU INSPECT IS VERY COMMON, MORE SO THAN THE SPEED CONTROL RECALL. I READ ABOUT THE RECALLS PERTAINING TO THIS PROBLEM STATING FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AND WOULD REPLACE THE ORIGINAL LINKS WITH A STRONGER LINK. I JUST HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT BUTTERFIELD FORD IN SANDY, UTAH AND POINTED OUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY STATED THEY WERE NOT UNDER ANY OBLIGATION TO REPLACE THE LINKS. IRONICALLY, THEY DID NOT EVEN ASK ME IF I WANTED THEM REPLACED AND THEY RELEASED MY VEHICLE WITHOUT REPLACING THEM. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS VEHICLE OFF ROAD NOR HAS IT EVER HIT A CURB, CHUCKHOLE, BUMP ETC. WITH ANY ABNORMAL FORCE. THESE LINKS ARE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, IF THEY ARE NOT. *NM
