ON 30 AUG 2000 WHILE TRAVELING OUR MOTOR HOME RAN OVER A BUMP IN ROAD AND STOPPED RUNNING,A WRECKER WAS CALLED MOTOR HOME WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP HAD SHORTED OUT , NEITHER THE MANAFACTURER-+ OR FORD WANT TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIRS SAYING IT IS THE OTTERS FAULT
WHILE DRIVING INTERSTATE RT.80 IN NABRASKA THIS JULY ; AT ABOUT 70 MPH I, I EXPERIANCED A NEAR FATAL BLOWOUT OF MY LEFT REAR INNER TIRE. IT ALSO DAMAGED THE OUTTER TIRE AS WELL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE MOTOR HOME UNDER CONTROL, AND GET TO AN EXIT. WE HAD TO WAIT 5 HRS. TO GET IT REPAIRED. WE GOT HOME OK. THE VERY NEXT TIME WE WHERE GO OUT , AS SOON AS I GOT UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED I FELT A PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND A VERY BAD VIBRITIONS. I HAD TO STOP AND GO BACK HOME; AT CLOSER INSPECTION, I DISCOVERED BOTH FRONT TIRES HAD BELT SEPERATION . I JUST AVIODED WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIG PROBLEM. THE TIRES BLEW THE THREAD OFF AND CAUSED SEVERE BODY DAMAGE AND VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED IN TO TOWN. FIRESTONE WAS CONTACTED AND I WAS ADVISED TO SEND THE TIRES TO BFTS 1515 ELM HILL PKIE #405 NASHVILLE TN 37210-3615 I HAD TO PAY TO SEND THEM TO THEM AS THE LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO HELP DUE TO THE BODY DAMAGE. I ELECTED NOT TO DO THIS AND PURCHASED MICHELINS TO REPLACE THE 6 TIRES. I TURNED THE CLAIM INTO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY FIXED THE BODY DAMAGE. I FEEL FIRESTONE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AS THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 14,000 MILES AND WAS ONLY ABOUT 1 AND A HALF YEARS OLD. DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AROUND THE ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE. FAILURE WAS INSTANTANEOUS AND EXPLOSIVE. MINOR DAMAGE WAS SUSTAINED TO THE VEHICLE FROM TIRE DEBRIS. CONTROL WAS MAINTAINED AS THE TIRE WAS ONE OF DUAL REAR TIRES. I CONTACTED BOTH MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND FIRESTONE DEALER, BUT THEY SHOWED NO INTEREST. I AM STILL IN POSSESSION OF THE FAILED TIRE, BUT NO LONGER HAVE THE REMAINING TIRES AS I REPLACED THEM. THE TREAD DEPTH OF THE FAILED TIRE AND THE REMAINING ORIGINAL TIRES WAS VERY GOOD, ALTHOUGH I DON'T RECALL THE EXACT MEASUREMENT. THE STEERING ON THIS MOTORHOME IS VAGUE AND WHILE GOING OVER BUMPS THERE IS EXTREME STEERING WHEEL MOVEMENT. THERE IS A FEELING OF A MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN HITTING BUMPS. I'VE NEVER FELT ANYTHING LIKE IT IN ANY OTHER CAR OR MOTORHOME. THERE ARE REOPRTS OF THE PROBLEM IN VARIOUS RV PUBLICATIONS, INCLUDING MOTORHOME MAGAZINE, MARCH ISSUE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE A FEELING OF LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. *AK

THE FUEL LINE / FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED DUE TO CONTAMINATION 6-5-98 AND THE MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED 2-19-99 DUE TO FAILURE. HOWEVER, VEHICLE SURGES GOING UP HILL SO THE FUEL LINE / FUEL FILTER / MAP SENSOR WAS REPLACED TO ELIMATE FAILURE WHICH STILL OCCURS. *YC
