DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT TEMPORARILY LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO FORD OF BRANFORD (301 E. WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, AND JUST STARTED CLIMBING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS, WITH OUR F350 TOWING OUR TRAILER. WE NOTICED A STRANGE SOUND FROM THE TIRES AND DECIDED TO PULL OVER AT THE NEXT EXIT TO CHECK IT OUT. BEFORE REACHING THE EXIT, THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW. WE HAD BF GOODRICH ALL TERRAIN TIRES ON OUR TRUCK THAT HAD 18,000 MILES ON THEM AND THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND DAMAGED OUR TRUCK BED WHICH CAUSED $10,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT MY HUSBAND WAS TRAINED WHAT TO DO IN SUCH SITUATIONS WHICH PREVENTED US HAVING AN ACCIDENT AS WE COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE TRAILER VERY EASILY. FORTUNATELY, THE TRUCK WAS STILL DRIVE-ABLE AFTER TAKING OFF A SUPPORT BRACKET AND PUTTING THE SPARE TIRE ON. AFTER GETTING TO A CITY WITH A TIRE STORE, WE ENDED UP PURCHASING 2 NEW TIRES SO THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD A MATCHED SET. WE PURCHASED THE SAME TYPE OF TIRE AS WE PREVIOUSLY HAD AS WE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. BUT AFTER READ

FEDERAL COURAGIA M/T LT265/70R17E TIRES PURCHASED JAN2013. TWO TIRES HAD BELT SEPARATE IN MAY2014. THE FIRST TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED BY MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP. ANOTHER TIRE SUFFERED COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION ON JUNE2014. THE LOCAL TIRE SHOP ASSURED ME THAT THEY WILL ALSO REPLACE THE TIRE THAT CAME APART AND ASKED ME TO PROVIDE BODY ESTIMATES TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE TIRE SO THEY CAN SUBMIT THEM TO TIRE DISTRIBUTOR. THE TIRES HAVE APPROX. 15,000 MILES ON THEM. THESE TIRES ARE INSTALLED ON A 2007 FORD F-350 4X4 WITH A 5.4L GAS ENGINE. THE TIRES ARE PEELING OFF AS IF THEY WERE RECAPPED TIRES BUT THEY ARE NOT RECAPS. *JS

I STOPPED, TURNED WHEELS RIGHT AND LEFT UNDER RESISTANCE. I WAS ABLE TO WORK OUT THE WOBBLING AND CONTINUED. THERE WERE SIMILAR OCCURRENCES LATER. AT 1000 MILES LATER, I PULLED OUT FROM A STOP SIGN ON HARD LEFT TURN, WENT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT, AND STEERING LOCKED ON RETURN. I TURNED LEFT THEN RIGHT TO UNLOCK IT AND IT DID UNLOCK, BUT WOBBLED SO BAD I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 10 MPH, UNTIL I STOPPED, TURNED MOTOR OFF, STARTED AGAIN, AND WORKED OUT THE RESISTANCE. I CAN USUALLY FEEL WHEN IT WILL OCCUR. JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK, CAN'T AFFORD REPAIR JUST YET. HELP! *TR

I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER THEY PUT A NEW STEERING DAMPENER ON IT AND SAID TRY IT, BUT IT WILL PROBABLY NOT BE ANY BETTER, THEN THE NEXT FIX IS TO PUT ON A BIGGER STEERING WHEEL SO I CAN HOLD ON BETTER WHEN IT HAPPENS.
