The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-250 SD. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera image was blank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rearview camera had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

WHILE ON VACATION TOWING MY 31' 10,000 POUND TRAVEL TRAILER AT 60 MPH HEADING NORTH ON HWY 89 ARIZONA IN EARLY MAY 2019 I EXPERIENCED A VIOLENT SCARY WOBBLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND ENTIRE VEHICLE IN WHICH I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE SOMEWHAT LESS NOTICEABLE. NOW AT 10K MILES THE DW IS PREVALENT IN EVERYDAY DRIVING AND MAKES THE VEHICLE VERY SCARY TO DRIVE. ALMOST TOTAL CONTROL IS LOST FOR SEVERAL SECONDS UNTIL YOU BRAKE HOPING NOT TO GET REAR ENDED WHILE REGAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ITS BAD ENOUGH TO SPEND $60K ON A TRUCK THAT DEVELOPED THIS TYPE OF ISSUE AT 7K MILES BUT AT 10K MILES IT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT MONEY, THIS COULD KILL SOMEONE. FORD HAS LISTED A TSB ON THIS ISSUE THAT I AM CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO BUT I'VE SEEN NO CONFIRMATION THAT THIS FIXED THE ISSUE, APPEARS TO BE MORE OF A BANDAGE. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP.

THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE TO REV UP (ALL THE WAY TO RED-LINE) WHILE IN GEAR EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS BEEN RELEASED. THIS HAPPENS UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: - VEHICLE IS IN A "COLD START" CONDITION (ENGINE NOT UP TO TEMP) - VEHICLE IS IN "M" (MANUAL TRANSMISSION DRIVER SELECT MODE) - VEHICLE IS COMMANDED TO INITIALLY ACCELERATE WITH THE PEDAL, BUT THEN PEDAL IS SUBSEQUENTLY RELEASED, AND YET ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN UP TO RED-LINE - VEHICLE WILL SLOW DOWN IF THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED - VEHICLE WILL AGAIN SPEED UP AS SOON AS FUEL PEDAL IS PRESSED TO A LEVEL OF APPROXIMATELY 2300RPM EACH TIME, AND THEN THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ESSENTIALLY STARTS THIS "RUN AWAY" FREE REV CONDITION. - THE CONDITION IS MORE PROMINENT WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN "4L" MODE, BUT CAN HAPPEN IN "4H" OR EVEN "2H'. - CONDITION IS REPEATAB

FORTUNATELY MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK WITH THE HELP OF THE DUMP TRUCK DRIVER PULLING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK DOOR. THE FIRE QUICKLY SPREAD TO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK AND THE ALUMINUM MELTED AWAY. HE LOST EVERYTHING THAT WAS IN THE CAB OF HIS TRUCK AND SOME THINGS IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. HE WAS PULLING AN ENCLOSED TRAILER WITH TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT AND THE FIRE SPREAD TO THE TRAILER AND DAMAGED/DESTROYED SOME TOOLS UNTIL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES.
