Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2019 F-150 is power train with 583 filings, followed by engine (286) and unknown or other (118). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 8 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 9 investigation files overlapping the 2019 F-150, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Transmission shifting is erratic at the best times and likes to randomly downshift from 10th gear to 1st gear and having to take drastic action to avoid a serious rear end collision in heavy traffic as many others who've reported the same issues. Ford is VERY aware of this issue but will not address it for most of the owners. The issue is well enough known Ford has had issued many TSBs but limited the action to a handful only with the most recent being TSB 22-2428. They have publicly stated the problems with the 10R80 Valve body and CDF clutch assembly, corrected it, but will not make it right with the thousands of owners. I contacted my dealer, who forwarded me to Ford corporate. I was informed that Ford WILL NOT do anything about it, and I was advised by the Ford CSR to make a complaint here. Will the US government hold Ford accountable; probably not unfortunately as looking through the endless history of reports here shows this is probably a wasted attempt. I have tried to uplo
Truck started smoking from under the hood in the area of the battery compartment while driving. Then truck burst into flames. 53,000 miles. No injuries. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue came to the scene with report number XXX-XXX and can be reached at [XXX] . Sticker shows built in May 2019. There was a recall 19S40 which applied to vehicles made in June 2019. So I was only one month prior to the official recall date. However, 19S40 specifically mentions fire risk. I believe my truck had this defect and was not recalled when it should have been. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have had my 2019 Ford F-150 for 5 years now and always noticed that it was consuming oil. After further investigation I discovered that Ford put out TSB 19-2365 (and 19-2338) which I never received pertaining to oil consumption. I talked to Ford and they said they would inspect for a mere $199.00 dollars for a problem they new was a problem for my 5.0 liter coyote engine. Since the problem began I now have a faulty catalytic converter and 02 sensors because of this defect. I also have to purchase a catch can to prevent oil getting through to the catalytic converter.
When transmission is cold it falls on its face going into 3rd and will shift from 3 to 7th back to 1st til warm once warm it shifts better but harshly into 3rd gear
My trucks transmission cdf drum would cause a sudden down shift to first gear while driving.
Transmission skips 4th gear then dropps down all the way to first then jumps all the way to 8th then back down to 4th again. Jerks real ha4d when it happens.
Erratic shifting and skipping gears, unexpected downshift to 1st gear or neutral causing loss of power when driving in freeway either in hot or cold. This is very crucial and serious issue because it cause a crash. Vehicle was taken to a Ford dealer and because they coundln't found any recall linked to this VIN so they did confirm failure of transmission. Even though they confirmed failure on transmission when I first noticed it was when it had around 50k miles and right now has around 96k.
This vehicle is currently in the shop and the tech is saying we may have to have a transmission replacement. The tech also stated that Ford knows there is a issues with these transmissions and they have not corrected it or made any improvements. Also, Ford will not issue a recall. The vehicle has a very hard shift and is dangerous to drive and it also completely shut down on us, putting our life in danger. We do all the proper maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle at a Ford dealership. This issue is very disappointing as these are "American made" vehicles.

Ford has had a known problem with their cam phaser in 2017-2020 Truck and SUV's. My truck got the recall 21B10 accomplished in 2021 and just a couple years later requires $5600 to fix a failed camshaft gear/sprocket. Ford refuses to help pay for the required repair.
Sudden downshifting, missing shift, sudden deceleration, harsh banging into gear.
Sudden downshifting, missing shift, sudden deceleration, harsh banging into gear.
Problems with truck shifting, hard shifting. Truck engine reving up when driving and you try to accelerate, like it was in neutral. Transmission making loud clunking noise and jerky stop when coming to a stop. I thought I had been rear ended.
When driving home from work at night on the highway in a 55mph zone my truck lost all power and the ability to accelerate. While on the highway began to hit the gas a bit more and saw the gears go from gear 10 all the way down to 1st gear at 55mph. Not sure what was happening and the truck began to âgear huntâ (attempting to find a gear that would give power). The truck gave me a check engine light and a alert of reduced power. I started to smell a burning smell in the vehicle and someone behind me was flashing me with their high beams to attempt to alert me something was wrong. I rolled the window down and looked in my mirror and saw white bellowing smoke being produced from behind the vehicle causing other drivers to either change lanes or slow down so they can see. I used what speed I had left from going down a on ramp to pull into a parking spot behind a building on the main road and had to call for a tow truck very late at night after my shift. Transmission 10R80 2 times now my transmission has slipped while trying to accelerate from a stop entering the flow of traffic. Both times it has happened after the transmission has warmed up to operating temperature. No it has not been confirmed or inspected by a dealer or independent service center. There has been no warning lights or messages. The transmission irregularly slips shifting to 3rd gear shortly after a cold start up before the transmission has fully warmed up.
I have a 2019 f150 5.0v8 with 10 speed trans. On 10/23/2023 my rear axle was replaced and mew engine was ordered on 11/13/2023. Had issues with my engine and the dealer replaced the engine around 80k miles on 4/18/2024. I was also having issues with my transmission having hard shifts and clunking or jumping gears. I took my truck to the dealer with the extended warranty back in OCT of 2024, dealer checked it and I was told it needed an update or reprogramming of the transmission , the reprogramming was not covered by ext warranty so I paid out of pocket. 6 months later In april I took it back in as the transmission was still having the same issues. The dealer did another reprogramming and was told the fluid was low and I again paid out of pocket. Took the truck home and it had the same issues again. Called dealer over and over to get my truck in and was told to wait over and over until they could get a loaner vehicle. After multiple text messages and complaints to them they finally
The 10âspeed automatic transmission (10R80) in my 2019 Ford Fâ150 failed prematurely at 71,972 miles. Prior to failure, the vehicle exhibited repeated harsh shifting, slipping between gears, delayed engagement, and occasional sudden jolts during acceleration. These symptoms occurred during normal driving and created unsafe conditions, especially when merging or crossing intersections. The transmission ultimately required a full replacement on 07/23/2025 at a cost of $8,400. This is a major drivetrain component that should not fail at this mileage under normal use. I later learned that many other owners have reported similar issues with the 10R80 transmission across multiple model years. This appears to be a widespread defect affecting safety, drivability, and reliability. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can investigate the pattern of premature failures and determine whether a recall or corrective action is warranted.
