New Car Assessment Program

The 2017FORDEDGE carries 1502 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 35 crashes, 1 fire, 35 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall 5/5 rating, with 5/5 front crash, 5/5 side crash, and 4/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2017 EDGE is engine with 614 filings, followed by engine and engine cooling (251) and power train (128). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 8 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 177 investigation files overlapping the 2017 EDGE, and 8 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

On February 14th while operating the vehicle I experienced a braking failure where the brake pedal went to the floor and braking distance was increased. I had the vehicle towed to Ford of Columbus in Columbus, IN on the morning of Feb. 16th where it was confirmed that the rear brake hose had blown due to the associated recall. The failure is exactly due to the recall as acknowledged by both Ford Motor Company and the dealership. Ford Corporate acknowledged (case number XXX) that the repair should not be my financial responsibility yet they continue to demand that I pay out of pocket now for an interim repair because the "official" fix is not ready. By refusing to authorize a no cost repair for a vehicle that has already failed due to their recall, Ford is denying a safety remedy and forcing me to bear the financial burden of a known defect. I do not believe it is my responsibility to pay now and then have to jump through hoops to seek a refund at a "later date" determined by Ford. Th

I have a 2017 Ford Edge with the famous coolant intrusion problem that has now caused me to need a new engine and Ford won't do anything to help me. This has been a known problem due to a defect in the way the engine was made that allows coolant to enter the cylinders. Now I am out $5,000 due to needing a new engine. Ford issued a TSB for this problem but no actual recall, leaving thousands of people with costly repair bills.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH and approaching a red light, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle slowed down slightly, but the brake pedal went to the floorboard, and the vehicle continued rolling. The contact pumped the brake pedal, and the brake pedal went back to the normal position. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred when the brake was depressed again. The vehicle was coasted to a parking lot, and the contact became aware that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. Brake fluid was purchased from an Auto Parts Store and added to the brake fluid reservoir; however, the brake fluid immediately drained from the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was advised that parts for the recall repair were not yet av

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V544000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal travelled to the floorboard. The vehicle jerked, made an abnormal grinding sound, and there was a delay in responding, causing the braking distance to be extended. An unknown warning light was intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the front brake hoses and the rear brake hoses needed to be replaced; however, the contact was informed that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The contact requested a trade; however, the request was denied. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. While the contact’s wife was driving and depressing the brake pedal, there was resistance to the brake pedal, and excessive pressure was needed on the brake pedal to slow and stop the vehicle. After arriving to the residence, the contact attempted to test the brake pedal and while depressing the brake pedal, there was a large amount of brake fluid leaking near the rear passenger’s side wheel. There were no warning lights or alarms from the OnStar App or the instrument panel. The contact spoke with a mechanic and was advised to reach out to the manufacturer and inquire about the possibility of reimbursement if the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. On appx 2/1/2026, when accelerating over 50mph to enter the highway, the car started to violently shake would not accelerate any higher. This caused my daughter to be a danger on the highway at such a low speed and she nearly was hit by a semi. The check engine line turned on when this occurred and then went off when the vehicle was turned off so we continued to drive it and it happened 2 more times so we brought it to be looked at. I took it to a local shop that had just changed the oil, thinking it was related, however they ran the diagnostic code(s) and found that there is an open service bulletin at Ford for this issue. The diagnostic codes were P0301 and P0316 for misfires in the cylinders. They are aware of the issue which is causing coolant to leak into the cylinder and the only remedy is to basically replace the engine which I was quoted over $10,000 to complete. For such a new vehicle with so little miles, it doesn't make any sense that Ford does not have a recall open for

Engine caused coolant to leak into the cylinders. Cracked engine block. Had to completely replace engine. Called Ford Assist and they said my car is one year too old to help with any sort of repairs. I was stranded without and car (my means to get to work) and heavily relied on other people. I had to finance the repairs on high interest loans, which caused undue stress and financial hardship.
