The 2016FORDEDGE carries 1025 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 25 crashes, 7 fires, 29 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall 5/5 rating, with 5/5 front crash, 5/5 side crash, and 4/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2016 EDGE is engine with 284 filings, followed by steering (101) and service brakes (93). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 7 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 177 investigation files overlapping the 2016 EDGE, and 8 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

See attached document for complaint. I am writing regarding an issue I am having getting a refund for something I paid for to have repaired that was placed on a recall list by Ford 6 months later. In March 2025 my Ford Edge Sport suddenly lost brakes while I was driving. Thankfully I was not going fast and was able to get pulled over without an accident. I took my car into to the local Ford dealership here in Palestine, TX on 3/20/25 where I had this issue repaired. I received the car back on 3/21/25. I paid 563.16 in total for the repairs. In September 2025, I received a recall letter for this issue. When I called the local dealer I was told I would have to wait for a second letter before they could issue me a refund, and that the company might make me bring it back in again once that second letter was received. I have not received a second letter to date so I reached out again to the local Ford dealership on 11/17/25 and was told they have no idea when this may occur, that it could

I started my Edge as I always do and the display panel kept changing from audio, to settings and on and on. It went thru all the choices and it kept going for about 20 mins until I could safely pull over to find the problem. The radio continues to play thru .the clicking of it changing choices. When I pulled over I put the car in park and shut my edge off, waited a few mins and started it again. It continues to cycle thru the choices. I shut the car off again, opened my door , closed my door, then restarted my edge. This stopped it from cycling thru the options again. I am also wondering about the other two recalls for my edge, the rear brake line and the rear camera. It has been over 6 months since I was notified and would like these fixed or give me a new car. Brakes are a very important thing and I do not think you really know what will happen if Iâm going 60 mph down the highway and I have to stop quick. Please reply to this and let me know about the cycling thru choices and i

On January 25, 2026, my 2016 Ford Edge experienced a catastrophic brake system failure corresponding to NHTSA Safety Recall 25V-544. The front brake jounce hose ruptured at the crimp, resulting in the immediate and total loss of brake fluid and zero braking pressure. The vehicle is effectively without brakes and is unsafe to operate. âI attempted to schedule service with the authorized dealer (Pat Armstrong Ford in Wenatchee, WA). The dealer refused to intake the vehicle or authorize a safety rental/loaner, citing that "no remedy is currently available" from Ford Motor Company. âI am currently stranded with a vehicle that has actively failed due to the safety defect described in the recall. The manufacturer's inability to provide a timely remedy, combined with the dealership's refusal to provide alternate transportation for a "Vehicle Off Road" (VOR) condition, presents an immediate safety risk. I have attached photos verifying the ruptured hose and fluid saturation.

Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2016 Ford Edge SE Engine: 2.0L EcoBoost Mileage at Failure: ~79,000 miles Description of the Problem: I am reporting a safety-related defect involving engine coolant intrusion into the cylinders on my 2016 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. At approximately 79,000 miles, my vehicle experienced engine misfires and internal coolant loss. Safety Concern: This failure presents a safety hazard due to: -Sudden loss of engine power -Risk of engine stalling while driving -Increased chance of breakdown in traffic -Potential loss of vehicle control in certain driving conditions An engine should not experience catastrophic internal failure at this mileage under normal operating and maintenance conditions. Every time I fill my gas tank up the car acts like it will not turn over and gives me a battery error. I have a brand new battery in my car and key just replaced both December 2025. After turning the car off and waiting then hitting the start button the car will start up then shutter. After going down the road it's fine and doesn't have the issue of not starting.
