Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2005 E-550 is engine and engine cooling with 1 filings, followed by electrical system:ignition (1) and fuel system, diesel (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 177 investigation files overlapping the 2005 E-550, and 8 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I PURCHASED MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE JANUARY 15, 2005. IN APRIL THAT SAME YEAR WAS THE FIRST TIME I ATTEMPTED TO START MY BRAND NEW TRUCK AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WILL CRANK BUT THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 3-4 MONTHS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER REGARDING THIS PROBLEM ABOUT 4 OR 5 TIMES AND EACH TIE THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T FIND ANY REASON THAT IT WOULD BE DOING THIS. THE LAST TWO TIMES IT HAPPENED I RECALL THAT IT HAD BEEN RAINING IN MY AREA SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS A FACTOR OR NOT BUT THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS JUST BEFORE THANKSGIVING 2006. *NM
