The 1992DODGEPICKUP carries 5 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1992 PICKUP is fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump with 1 filings, followed by suspension:front:control arm:lower arm (1) and engine and engine cooling:engine (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 20 investigation files overlapping the 1992 PICKUP, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

WHEN I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK I PUT $4000.00 CASH DOWN ON IT AND BECAUSE THERE IS CURRENTLY NO LEMON LAW IN IDAHO I WAS STUCK. THE TRUCK NOW RUNS PRETTY WELL. IAW THE CUMMINS FACTORY REPAIR MANUAL THE TIMING GEAR HOUSING BOLTS ARE TO BE LOCK TIGHTED AND THEN TORQUED TO SPECS, ONLY TWO WERE LOCKTIGHTED. THE ANTI LOCK AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON SINCE MY INITIAL PURCHASE AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES HAVE NOT BEEN FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE DAY PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE OF THIS TRUCK LOT OF CARS WORKED ON THE BRAKES BOTH FRONT AND REARS. I HAD WENT IN AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM AND RON THOMAS STATED THAT BECAUSE OF THE IDAHO LEMON LAW THAT IT WAS TOO BAD THAT I WAS STUCK WITH IT. I FEEL THAT IT IS THE LACK OF LAWS TO PROTECT THE CONSUMERS AGAINST CAR DEALERS SUCH AS THIS. *AK

ON MAY 30, 2001 I TOOK MY 1992 DODGE CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL 250 TO SWIFT AUTO WORLD NORTH FOR SERVICE. WHEN THEY HOISTED IT TO DRAIN THE OIL THE "FRONT, RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM" PART NO. 52037614, FELL LOOSE FROM THE "BALL JOINT" PART NO. 3683983AB. I WAS TOLD, "IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING I WOULD HAVE LOST STEARING CONTROL OF THE TRUCK". I WAS LUCKY, BUT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THIS MODEL TRUCK OUT THERE THAT THE OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY WAY THAT DODGE CAN BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY THEM? THAT IS MY ONLY PURPOSE IN REPORTING THIS TO YOU, TO POSSIBLY SAVE A LIFE.
