THE PART IS AVAILABLE IN THE AFTERMARKET FOR ABOUT $350.00 AFTER A NUMBER OF CALLS TO FIAT CHRYSLER THEY WOULD ONLY OFFER TO BUY THE VEHICLE FROM ME FOR $300.00 WHICH IS THE LOWEST VALUE TO BE HAD BY KBB.

I HAVE A 1992 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN MINI VAN. FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WITH A 3.3 ENGINE. EVERY TIME THE SERPENTINE BELT GETS THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF MOISTURE ON IT...IT COMES OFF! AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH WHICH REQUIRES PAYING A PRO TO REINSTALL IT. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT ONE LOSES ALL POWER STEERING NOT MENTION ALL FUNCTIONS CONTROLLED BY THE BELT! THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME WAS IN RAIN ON A BUSY TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND I ALMOST FLIPPED THE VAN! IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING AND WITH IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I HAVE RELOCATED THE TENSIONER AND PULLEY ASSEMBLY WITH NO SATISFACTION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT CHRYSLER DESIGNED THESE MINI VANS WITH NO SHIELDS INSTALLED TO TURN MOISTURE FROM THE ENTIRE PULLEY SYSTEM (TOP OR BOTTOM) AND THE PULLEYS HAVE NO 'LIP' TO HOLD THE BELT IN PLACE ALLOWING IT TO SLIDE OFF WHEN WET! IS THERE NO WAY CHRYSLER CAN BE FORCED TO INSTALL AN OEM PRODUCT OR SHIELD TO PREVENT THIS AND SAVE LIVES? THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN ALL CHRYSLER MINI VANS FROM APPRX

A MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ABS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 96V099000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE SEAT BELTS: FRONT: BUCKLE ASSEMBLY (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 97V148000) HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 223,087 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER COULD NOT SEE THE PROBLEM, DEALER SAID THAT IF THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEY WOULD FIX IT BECAUSE THE ACTUATOR PUMP AND ASSEMBLY MOTOR WERE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE WAS INCLUDED IN A RECALL 96V099000 CONCERNING ABS MODULE CONTROL FAILURE. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED THEN. THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN PAST RECALL 730 BY DODGE THAT WAS POORLY HANDLED. THE REAR HATCH ATTACHMENT BOLT WAS THE ITEM ON RECALL. THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR IN JULY OF 1997 BECAUSE THE BOLTS HAD BROKEN, AND HAD THEM REPLACED. THEN THEY BROKE AGAIN IN AUGUST OF 1999. ON MAY 1, 2005 ONE OF THEM BROKE AGAIN, AND ALMOST BROKE HIS WIFE'S ARM. ON 5-3-2005, AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CAR WAS TOO OLD. THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT UNLESS THE CONSUMER PAID. THE DEALERS RESPONSE WAS INAPPROPRIATE. THE DEALER CHECKED WITH THE DISTRICTS OFFICE AND VALIDATED THAT IT WOULDN'T DO IT. ALSO, THE CONSUMER WAS INAPPROPRIATE. THE THIRD ISSUE WAS THE ADEQUACY OF THE RECALL ITSELF. THE FOURTH ISSUE WAS THAT THE DEALER JUST TOLD HIM THAT HE WOULDN'T FIX BOTH SIDES. *AK THE OIL PAN LEAKED AND THE SERPITINE BELT. HE SAID THAT CHRYSLER DOES NOT SUPPLY PARTS FOR SEATS, AND THAT A NEW SEAT WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR MY VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT THAT THE MANUFACTURER MUST FIX, AND I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PROCEED. *AK
