I bought my car with 50,000 miles. I didn’t even have 55,000 and my car started have electrical issues with the speedometer, my dashboard started glitching with all the lights including an A with exclamation mark. I took it to the Dodge dealership in Huntsville and said they couldn’t do anything about it since the recall seemed to be repair but they couldn’t clear the code. I had just parked my vehicle in my drive and turned it off. I opened my door then sat back in my seat to stretch my back, sitting straight up with my head against the headrest, before getting out. On [XXX] 2024 my wife, son, and I were sitting at a stop light on [XXX] at approximately 16:40 hours when we heard a loud pop in the vehicle and my wife's head was pushed forward by the passenger side seat head rest, causing pain to my wife's head and neck, and shoulder muscles. The sunroof spontaneously exploded and shattered all over while driving on the highway at approximately 65 miles an hour. Mother and child were in the vehicle. The sunroof was opened on "vent" position. The sunroof cover was also opened (cover inside the vehicle) Mother and child sustained minor physical injuries however, this could have been a major much bigger accident with many other vehicles on the road involved.

No lights on the dashboard were on but the radio/ climate control center screen was flashing. Shut screen off. Was involved in motor vehicle accident with front end collision. Police report and insurance notified. Air bags did not deploy. Approximate speed on impacted was 30mph. Two days prior the auto stop and start system was flashing on dashboard.

The suspension rod that lifts and holds the liftgate open snapped at the bolt and broke. The liftgate can only be opened and close manually now. It has fallen on my arm and caused bruises multiple times. I fear it can fall on my head or my children's. I haven't taken it to get repaired as I'm sure it will be costly and money is very tight. I only had this vehicle for 4 years when this happened and it has low mileage. I have read about other Durangos having this same issue.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS GREY AND WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING HOT WHILE THE START AND STOP WARING LIGHT AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT COOLANT WAS PUT IN THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COIL

ON JANUARY 6, 2020, I PLACED MY 2017 DODGE DURANGO INTO PARK IN MY HOME'S DRIVEWAY AND EXITED THE VEHICLE, LEAVING THE EMPTY VEHICLE IDLING. APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS LATER, THE VEHICLE SLIPPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO DRIVE AND ROLLED AWAY, FORWARD, INTO MY GARAGE, CAUSING SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE. I HAVE THE INCIDENT RECORDED ON VIDEO, BUT I AM UNABLE TO UPLOAD IT TO THIS WEBSITE. I WILL HAPPILY FORWARD IT BY EMAIL OR OTHER MEANS IF REQUESTED. I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS OF THE GARAGE DAMAGE. AS A RESULT, THE REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AS OF YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60

THIS DESCRIPTION OF THE INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY I GO TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND OPEN UP THE BACK HATCH. ONCE IT IS OPEN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE CUT MY UPPER ARM/FOREARM AT THE POINT WHERE THE REAR TAILLIGHTS ARE SEPARATED. I HAVE FELT THE AREA AND HAD FAMILY AND FRIENDS DO THE SAME. THEY ALL AGREE IT IS VERY SHARP AND HAZARDOUS.
