I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW. I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO DRIVES IT AND I HAVE USED SYNTHETIC OIL THE ENTIRE TIME. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF IT. I WAS ON THE OFF RAMP OF I-85 WHEN IT JUST STOPPED. IT WAS SMOKING AND THEN THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS IN A DANGEROUS PLACE ON THE OFF RAMP AND OIL WAS SPILLING OUT OF THE BOTTOM. WE HAD TO GET THE CAR TOWED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT HAD TWO CRACKED HEADS. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I AM EXTREMELY UPSET ABOUT THIS AND I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND REGISTERED A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT ALL THE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE. CHRYSLER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS ENGINE OR THEY WOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL. EVERY PARTS PERSON, MECHANIC, DEALERSHIP, ETC. STEERING WHEEL LOF MY VEHICLE LOST ITS CONTROL ON WHEELS,WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON I75(TRYING TO CHANGE LANE).I HEARD CRUNKING SOUND AND SOMEHOW MANGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER.I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO MAINTAINENCE SHOP AND CAME TO KNOW THAT RACK AND PINION SYSTEM GOT BROKE DOWN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.I WAS REALLY LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE SAVED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE 405 (8 LANE HIGHWAY IN LOS ANGELES) AND MY CHRYSLER INTREPID WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT BLEW UP! I HAD TO MERGE THROUGH 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I REALIZED I WASN'T IN A VERY GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD AND WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR HELP I WAS APPROACHED BY WHAT APPEARED TO BE A GANG AND THEY TOOK ALL MY MONEY AND THREW ME TO THE GROUND. AFTER ALL OF THIS I FIND OUT THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS BLOWN TO OIL SLUDGE! I JUST PURCHASES THE CAR 2 MONTHS AGO AND IT ONLY HAS 45,000 MILES ON IT! RACK & PINION WAS REPLACED 4/4/03...NORMAL NOISE SIGNALING A PROBLEM. ON 4/22/05, WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, THE RACK & PINION FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME BOTH TIRES WENT DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD, I MIGHT HAVE BEEN KILLED...I HAD NO STEERING AT ALL. IT WAS EVEN HARD TO GET IT MOVED THE REST OF THE WAY OUT OF THE GARAGE TO GET IT TOWED, SINCE BOTH TIRES WERE FREE SPINNING. THE REPAIRMAN AT HOOVER CHRYSLER SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A FAILURE. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED CHRYSLER TO LET THEM KNOW OF OUR SECOND RACK AND PINION FAILURE AND THE POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING SITUATION, AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT WE SHOULD EXPECT PROBLEMS WHEN A CAR IS OLDER. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM DAIMLERCHRYSLER FOR THE UPPER BALL JOINTS IN MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY TO FIND OUT HOW TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED AS THERE IS NO DEALERSHIP WHERE I LIVE. I LET THEM KNOW I LIVED IN KETCHIKAN, ALASKA. THE WOMAN I SPOKE WITH TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP AS IT WAS THE CLOSEST TO ME. I CONTACTED THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT HE COULD SEND ME THE PARTS FROM JUNEAU AND I COULD HAVE THE LABOR DONE IN KETCHIKAN, SENDING HIM THE BILL FOR THE LABOR, WHICH I WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR AN ALLOTTED AMOUNT OF MONEY. I AGREED, BUT HE NEEDED TO FIND OUT IF HE COULD SEND ME BOTH BALL JOINTS, AS I HAD ONE BALL JOINT REPLACED IN AUGUST OF 2004, WITHOUT BEING REIMBURSED BY DAIMLERCHRYSLER. TODAY, AUGUST 1, 2005, THE GENTLEMAN FROM THE JUNEAU DEALERSHIP CALLED TO TELL ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE BOTH BALL JOINTS REPLACED, BUT THAT HE COULD NO LONGER SEND ME THE PARTS BECAUSE DAIMLERCHRYSLER HAD CONTACTED HIM AND NOW PROHIBITED HIM

WE PURCHASED OUR 2000 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L WITH 92,936 MILES. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH ONCE WE HIT 100,000 MILES THEN THE CAR TURNED TO JUNK. A BLOWN ENGINE! WE'VE BEEN AROUND AND AROUND WITH OUR OHIO ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE AND DAIMLER CHRYSLER WITH NO LUCK! SEVERAL DIFFERENT MECHANICS HAVE TOLD US THAT AFTER 100,000 MILES THE INTREPID IS JUNK! WE CAN'T EVEN PURCHASE A NEW ENGINE BECAUSE THE JUNK YARD HAS BEEN OUT OF THEM AND CAN'T KEEP THEM IN STOCK BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND AND EVEN THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THERE IS A BACK LOG OF ORDERS FOR ENGINES. NOW IF THIS DOESN'T TELL YOU THERE'S A PROBLEM, I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOES. THE LAST MECHANIC SAID HE WAS PRETTY SURE THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TAKING PLACE IN REGARDS TO THE 2.7 L ENGINES. I NOTICED THERE WAS A FUNNY NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE, I THEN INFORMED MY HUSBAND AND HE CONTACTED A MECHANIC TO COME TO THE HOUSE, THE MECHANIC DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON THE ENGINE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. WELL, ON MY WAY BACK FROM LUNCH (SEPTEMBER 2004) THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR WAS BEGINNING TO LOSE POWER. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOOK THE ENGINE APART AND FOUND SLUDGE BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE, WHICH EVENTUALLY LED UP TO ENGINE FAILURE. I RELIGIOUSLY HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND EVEN HAD A MASTER MECHANIC DO A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON THE ENGINE BEFORE THE FAILURE. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY CAR SINCE SEPTEMBER 2004 AND I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENT. I HAVE TAKEN MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO TO FOREST LAKE DODGE DEALER FOR A CLUNKING NOISE IN MY FRONT END OVER YEAR AGO. I HAD A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. THEY SAID AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULDN'T HEAR ANYTHING. AGAIN WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS I RETURNED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ALONG WITH MY PASSENGER WINDOW NOT GOING UP OR DOWN CORRECTLY. ONCE AGAIN THEY SAID OH YOU NEED SHOCKS AND YOU NEED YOUR SERVICE OF WARRENTY PROFORMED OR YOUR WARRENTLY WONT BE ANY GOOD, SO I SAID YES DO WHAT IS UNDER WARRENTY NOTHING ELSE UNLESS I SAY IT OK, WILL MORE WORK WAS PROFORMED AND I ENDED UP PAYING HUNDRED PLUS DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET. AGAIN THEY SAID THERE WAS NO CLUCKING NOISE NOTED AND THAT THE PASSENGER WINDOW ACCORDING TO THE COMPUTER SAID IT FUNCTIONS CORRECTLY. WILL TO THIS DAY OVER A YEAR LATER, THE CLUCK IS THERE AND SHOCKS AND OTHER MAINTENCE WAS COMPLETED, THE PASSENGER WINDOW MOVES SO SLOW THAT WE DONT USE IT AS IT HAS AND STILL DOES QUIT WORKING.
