ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MAY MELT RESULTING IN A BURNING SMELL AND VISIBLE SMOKE, WHICH MAY SUBSEQUENTLY LEAD TO THE MELTING OF THE CAMSHAFT COVER AND THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WIRE HARNESS.

WHEN THE NOTICE WAS RECEIVED THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *NM

NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V357000 CONCERNING CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THREE MONTHS AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED THE PROBLEM RECURRED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
RECALL 04V357000 CONCERNING CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR: VEHICLE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT CAM SHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER CONTACTED DAEWOO, WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
IN SEPTEMBER 2004 I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF A RECALL RELATING TO THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR IN MY 2001 DAEWOO LEGANZA. THE FAULTY DEVICE WAS SUPPOSED TO CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE (WHICH IT DID), AND A BURNING SMELL AND/OR VISIBLE SMOKE (WHICH ALSO OCCURRED). THE LETTER MENTIOND A RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS OF VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND MY CAR IS WELL WITHIN THAT RANGE. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER FOR THE REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM RESULTING IN THIS RECALL WAS EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO MY CAR, THIS WAS NOT A COVERED SERVICE BECAUSE THE LOT NUMBER OF THE PART THEY REMOVED WAS NOT WITHIN THE AFFECTED LOT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE LETTER I RECEIVED MADE NO MENTION OF SPECIFIC LOTS AFFECTED, BUT IT DID CLEARLY STATE, "THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE..." I WAS CHARGED FOR THE SERVICE AND THE DAEWOO CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER REPRESENTATIVE CLAIMS NO LIABILITY FOR THE FAULTY PART AND
RECALL CAMPAIGN: THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL SERVICE BUT WAS TOLD HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TC (RECALL#04V357000) *JB
WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, THE BRAKES LOCKED. THIS RESULTED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. THE CAUSE OF THIS IS STILL UNDETERMINED. *NM
