TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CORNER OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BRACKET HAD FRACTURED, WHICH CAUSED THE SEAT TO ROCK AND BECOME UNSTABLE. THE DEALER (GOOD CHEVROLET, 325 SW 12TH ST, RENTON, WA 98057, (425) 336-0640) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE DRIVER DOOR, FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER DOORS CAN ONLY BE OPENED BY ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN AND OPENING THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. WE NOTICED THAT AROUND THE SAME TIME THE DOORS WENT OUT, SO DID THE BACK BRAKE LIGHT PANELS (REPLACING THE BULBS AND HOUSING UNITS DON'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE). THE BACK BRAKE LIGHT PANELS ARE INTERMITTENT AND SEEM TO WORK ON OCCASION (IF WE HIT A BUMP OR SOMETHING). THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND I'M AFRAID WE WILL HAVE TO JUNK OUR TRUCK DUE TO IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET TAHOE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON POORLY COATED/TREATED BRAKE LINES LED TO A FAILURE TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COAST INTO TRAFFIC AT AN INTERSECTION ON A BUSY MAJOR HIGHWAY. USE OF DOWNSHIFTING, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND SHIFTING INTO 4WD WAS THE ONLY WAY A MAJOR ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED. THE REAR DRUM BRAKES WERE NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO COMPENSATE FOR THE COMPROMISED LINE IN THE FRONT. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO PLACED A PATCH ON THE FUEL TANK HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 264,349.

THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON MY 1995 CHEVY TAHOE ARE ACTIVATING SPURIOUSLY AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN BRAKING. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS AS I APPROACH A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN OR WHEN PARKING IN A LOT. THIS ACTIVATION CAUSES AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. IT HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT AT THIS TIME, BUT I COULD SEE HOW IT COULD. FROM SOME ONLINE RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH RUSTING OF THE SPEED SENSORS. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM FOR WHICH A RECALL SHOULD BE INITIATED TO FIX. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT SEEMED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS NOT BEING COOLED FOR SOME REASON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT JUST BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, HE COULD SMELL BURNING TRANSMISSION FLUID EACH TIME. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AGAIN WITH ANOTHER REBUILT TRANSMISSION. WITHIN NINE YEARS, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES EVERY YEAR AND A HALF. THE CONTACT HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT THE COST OF $1,700. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY CORRESPONDED WITH YOUR AGENCY (ODI# 10098003) ON 10/29/04. ALTHOUGH GENERAL MOTORS HAS RECENTLY ISSUED AN ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM RECALL, IT INCLUDES ONLY CERTAIN MODELS AFTER 1999. BE ADVISED EARLIER YEAR MODELS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, AND REPAIR TO THOSE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. I HAVE INCURRED $200.00 IN REPAIRS CAUSED BY THE PROBLEM WITH CORROSION DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. MY MECHANIC HAS DISABLED THE SYSTEM BY REMOVAL OF THE FUSE TO PREVENT THE ACTIVATION OF THE ABS SYSTEM FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I THEREFORE HAVE A SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR SAFETY WHICH IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY USELESS. AND IN NEED OF REPAIR. LETS GET GM TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM IN TOTAL. *NM

I DRIVE A 1995 CHEVY TAHOE AND ALMOST EVERY TIME I BREAK THE ABS ENGAGES AT ABOUT 10 MPH, EXTENDING MY FINAL STOP. I HAVE READ THAT THE NHTS IS INVESTIGATING THIS "FEATURE" ON 1999-2002 CHEVY TRUCKS. FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE AND EXPERIENCED MYSELF, I THINK THIS DEFECT IS VERY COMMON IN A MUCH BROADER MANUFACTURING TIME PERIOD.
