Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.

NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 2000 MALIBU CLASSIC, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. MY ANTITHEFT DEVICE HAS BEEN ENGAGING EVERY TWO OR SO WEEKS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A YEAR AGO. I HAVE TO SIT IN THE CAR FOR TEN MINUTES WHILE THE LIGHT FLASHES AND WAIT FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF BECAUSE THE CAR WON'T START. DEALERSHIPS CONTINUE TO SAY THERE IS NO RECALL AND ESTIMATE THE REPAIR COSTS ANYWHERE FROM 350.00 TO 1500.00., NOT INCLUDING THE 100.00 INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC COST. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF A RECALL WILL BE ISSUED ASAP. THANK YOU. *TR
