Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 1998 IMPALA, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. THE STEERING WAS HARD WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, AS IF THE VAN DIDN'T HAVE ANY POWER STEERING. MAKING RIGHT TURNS DIDN'T REQUIRE ANY EFFORT AT ALL, IT TURNED TOO EASY. CITY CHEVROLET FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER VENTURES THAT WERE LISTED IN THE RECALL. FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY I HAD TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED AND COULDN'T WAIT FOR A MANUFACTURE RECALL ON MY VAN'S VIN# BECAUSE AT THAT TIME THERE WASN'T A RECALL
