Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 EXPRESS 1500 is structure:body:door:hinge and attachments with 2 filings, followed by seats (2) and electrical system:wiring:fuses and circuit breakers (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 2000 EXPRESS 1500, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

WE OWN BOTH A 1998 AND 2000 EXPRESS VAN AND WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BOTH OF THEM WITH REGARDS TO THE SIDE PASSENGER DOORS (THE 'DOUBLE' DOORS). WE HAVE HAD A DEALER DRILL HOLES IN THE HINGES TO LUBRICATE THEM AS THEY SEIZE UP AND BECOME VERY HARD TO OPEN AND CLOSE. THIS IS JUST A TEMPORARY AND EVENTUALLY AN INEFFECTIVE FIX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS WE HAVE 6 CHILDREN OF WHICH 3 HAVE TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT AND IF THERE WERE TO BE AN EMERGENCY WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET THE LEFT DOOR OPEN TO GET THE KIDS OUT FASTER. *TR

THE DRIVERS SEAT ON 2000 CHEVROLET EXPRESS VAN IS BECOMING DETACHED FROM THE BASE. THIS IS CAUSING THE SEAT TO UNEXPECTEDLY MOVE WHEN TURNING OR STOPPING. THE SEAT IS DETACHED IN THE REAR OF THE BASE AND ACTUALLY SWIVELS UP TOWARDS THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS CONCERN THAT THE SEAT WILL UNEXPECTEDLY MOVE CAUSING THE OPERATOR TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IN AN EFFORT TO RECTIFY THE SEAT PROBLEM I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE MAKER OF THE SEAT. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT AS PHONE MESSAGES AND E-MAILS WERE NOT RETURNED. THE SEAT DECAL AT THE BASE STATES THE SEAT WAS MANUFACTURED BY ATWOOD MOBILE PRODUCTS. AFTER FINALLY RECEIVING AN ANSWER FROM THEM, THEY STATED THE SEAT BASE IS AT FAULT AND WAS MANUFACTURED BY LLEBROC INDUSTRIES (817-831-6261). THE PICTURES I TOOK WERE SENT TO LLEBROC AND THEY ADVISED THE COMPLETE SEAT BASE MUST BE REPLACED. I PURCHASED THE SEAT BASE AT COST OF $245.00. THE BASE SENT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME AS THE BASE THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CLIP

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY EXPRESS 1500 VAN. THE SIDE DOORS HAVE BECOME INCREASING HARD TO OPEN AND SHUT. FINALLY ONE DAY THEY WOULD NOT CLOSE AND THE DOOR APPEARS TO BE WARPED OR OUT OF ALIGNMENT. AFTER TAKING THE VAN TO A BODY SHOP THEY TOLD ME THE HINGE PINS ON THE DOORS HAVE SEIZED UP AND THERE IS NO WAY TO LUBRICATE THEM. HE SAID THE REPAIR IS ABOUT $1,000 TO REPAIR THE DOOR WHICH INVOLVES CUTTING OFF THE OLD HINGES AND WELDING ON EW ONES. THE BODY SHOP SAID THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE THAT GM IS AWARE OF BUT WILL NOT CHANGE, FIX OR STAND BEHIND IF OUT OF WARRANTY. I FEEL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THAT GM EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM CONTINUES TO MANUFACTURE A FAULTY PART. I SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY REPAIR COSTS. *TR

THERE ARE 3 DOORS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE ONE THAT HAS THE 2 DOORS FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK TO GET OUT THAT THE DOOR WITH THE HANDLE THAT IS IN THE INSIDE WILL OPEN BUT SCRAPES THE OUTER METAL FRAME. THIS DOOR DID OPEN AND WORK FULLY UNTIL ONE DAY AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPEN I WANTED TO OPEN IT AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. I DIDN'T WANT TO FORCE IT NOR KNOCK ANY MORE PAINT OFF. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE HINGE ITSELF OR SOMETHING ELSE.WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 1999 DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WAS BUT MARK 3 WENT OUT OF BUSINESS SO I DON'T KNOW IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR NOT . ALSO WHEN THE T.V AND VCR ARE ON OR JUST THE T.V. IS ON IT WILL ONLY PLAY FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL KICK OFF AND EVERYTHING WILL NOT WORK INCLUDING READING LIGHTS AND TV AND VCR. THERE IS A RELAY SWITCH TO RESET IT AND THEN IT WILL WORK. I WENT TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME ABOUT 400 BUCKS TO REPAIR IT . THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. THIS PART IS BELOW THE HEADUNIT THAT IS IN BACK OF THE DRIVERS SIDE ON T
