The 1992CHEVROLETCORVETTE carries 8 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 1 crash, 1 fire, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1992 CORVETTE is electrical system:ignition with 3 filings, followed by seats:front assembly:power adjust (1) and wheels (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 1992 CORVETTE, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. COLLISION OCCURRED ON 12/15/01 IN GREENVILLE, SC. I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND HAD ALMOST COME TO A STOP WHEN THE ENGINE "ROARED" THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND STRUCK A VAN IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE VAN'S BUMPER AND MY HOOD ON THE LEFT SIDE. I WAS NOT ISSUED A TICKET. BOTH GM ANF CARMAX HAVE BEEN CONTACTED AND NEITHER WILL SEND A TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE SO I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE THE ACCIDENT.OF ME. *AK
