Within that volume, owners reported 4 crashes, 0 fires, 13 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall 4/5 rating, with 4/5 front crash, 5/5 side crash, and 3/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2023 COLORADO is electrical system with 35 filings, followed by forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking (34) and service brakes (21). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 2023 COLORADO, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

Since Friday, February 23rd 2026 when my 2023 Chevy Colorado first start blowing oil out of the oil pan. almost 5 qts total was lost when it arrived at the dealership. Truck was out of service from Friday until the following Wednesday, January 28th. The truck was picked up and taken on a drive out to (January 29th, 2026) Waverly, KS from my hometown of Prairie Village, KS about 70 miles. On the way back home the truck went into safe mode at highway speeds. Lost all acceleration and barely made it off the side of the road before getting hit. Truck went back to dealership after being towed 70 miles. Where it was kept until Friday, February 6th. During this time at the dealership, they thought the problem was fixed, where again blew out all the oil while driving. Finally received the truck back. Check engine lights were still on but truck was holding oil and driving decent. Truck was doing fine until Monday February 16th. I was at a job and was driving home to finish the day. Again on
Recall was performed on truck about a year ago for the pedestrian collision automatic braking. Today the truck locked up the brakes in traffic and there wasnât a pedestrian in sight. I believe the recall didnt truly fix the issue, as it has given false alerts before without applying the brakes

Upper radiator hose leak.
Radiator inlet hose leaked which caused low coolant. Check light alerted. Replace the hose. Parts are on backorder. Also had a recall on the emergency brake assist. I took this in for the recall however the alert assist still goes off.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera displayed a blank screen. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front camera activated; however, there was no image displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, and the contact was informed that the camera system had been reprogrammed. The contact stated that the repair only lasted for several months before the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.

The upper radiator hose on some huge percentage of these trucks fail (mine has failed at just over 37K miles). You can check the Colorado Chevy forum, youtube, etc., et al, and find plenty of instances where this has failed. As this is the cooling system, it can cause the engine to overheat and potentially ruin the engine. The flaw seems to be an engineering issue with the rubber seal they use (instead of a high quality o-ring) to seal the upper hose to the radiator. Additionally, since this can cause engine failure it should be addressed immediately. Instead, my local Chevy dealer, since its not a recall item, said they could schedule a time next week for me to LEAVE the truck and then they would get to it in 7-10 days. This is extremely unfair to the consumer who depends on these vehicles. This should absolutely be a recall item. You can find 1000's of examples online and if you can pull GM repair data, I'm sure you'll find 1000's more
The upper radiator hose and gasket on numerous Colorado and Canyon trucks have failed prematurely. Mine has failed at 31k miles. Radiator hose leaks can cause engine overheating and failures while on roadways. Additional issues of leaking coolant on roadways and into the environment. Vehicle is scheduled to be viewed by dealership. Symptom which lead to diagnosing problems included rushing fluid sounds as air was introduced to the coolant line as well as an observable leak on the driver side where the radiator hose connects to the radiator.
Driving down the expressway at 70 MPH traffic stopped ahead, I applied the brakes easy to slow down. Dash lit up with "BREAK FAILURE" DO NOT DRIVE OVER 60MPH, brakes beome "VERY SONGEY"
Driving on expressway step on brakes to slow down, brakes become spongy and will not stop quickly, only slow down, engine decelarates to 60 mph. This has now happened 7 times in one and a half years
Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab 4WD, VIN: [XXX] , mileage: 52,877. Recurrent failure in the cooling system and engine/transmission, affecting safety and use. Check Engine Light comes on and off intermittently, code P30C5 (Coolant Flow Low). The coolant pump was replaced under warranty on March 20, 2025, at Leson Chevrolet (Harvey, LA) with 26,621 miles (attached invoice), but the same issue persists 9 months later with "Engine and Transmission System" alert in myChevrolet app. This is the 5th failed repair for the same defect since purchase (August 2023). Previous repairs include transmission wiring/sensor (January 2024) and Traction Control/ABS (December 2023). The vehicle is unsafe for daily 100-mile commute. Request investigation for potential recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Forward collision braking activated for no reason and will hard brake. Has done it in the middle of an empty parking lot as well as when driving 65 MPH down the highway, twice. No major injuries happened either time other then sore necks and seatbelt marks. On 2 incidents only the driver was in the vehicle, the other incident consisted of the driver, front seat passenger and 2 children in the back seat. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership. The vehicle now has brake and router problems, which the dealership has said is from hard braking. The vehicle has a bad vibration when applying the brakes.

When you have your foot on the break engine running within about 5 mins the breaks release for a second all the light on the dashboard kick on then the breaks feel spongy, you have to then turn the truck off the computer resets check engine light will still remain but the breaks will now be functional again. When taking it to the dealer they stated there was a software recall and they reset the light called it a day.
COMPONENT FAILURE: Body Control Module causing systematic electrical failures: door locks, power windows, window regulators, four-wheel drive transfer case display. Components intact, available for inspection. SAFETY RISK: Door locks malfunction preventing emergency exit. Power windows fail affecting communication/egress. 4WD display fault (yellow AUTO vs white) indicates transfer case control issues affecting traction in mountain winter driving at 10,000ft elevation. Unpredictable electrical failures create safety risk during remote travel. DEALER CONFIRMATION: Approximately 20 dealer visits. Each time: scan codes, test drive, "no fault found." Problem temporarily clears via battery disconnect/reconnect, proving electrical fault not mechanical. Dealer cannot diagnose root cause, hasn't performed systematic electrical testing. MANUFACTURER INSPECTION: None despite repeated failures. WARNING SYMPTOMS: Intermittent: door ajar warnings, power window/lock failures, 4WD indicator yellow, va
