Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2015 CITY EXPRESS is air bags with 5 filings, followed by fuel/propulsion system (2) and structure:body (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 2015 CITY EXPRESS, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I had purchased a set of four Cooper Discoverer HT3 185/60R15C 94T C Tires on 09/11/20. Since that time, three of the four Tires have failed due to Sidewall Failure. Luckily, the scenarios did not result in "Blowouts" in which control of the vehicle would have been compromised. I returned to the National tire and Battery where the tires were purchased after the first incident and was told that the Sidewall Damage was my fault as I had obviously hit a curb. I informed the young man in charge that this was highly unlikely as it was the inner Sidewall of the Tire and no "Scuff Marks" were present. He declined to assist me in any warranty replacement as I did not purchase their "Road Hazard Insurance". His attitude and lack of assistance has ended my affiliation with NTB!07
My vehicle was never corrected for the Recall described below, from my recollection. My understanding is that the 2015 Chevrolet City Express van was recalled due to an issue with the passenger-side airbag sensor, which could incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. The defect: in affected vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash. The hazards: if the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury. Affected vehicle: Chevrolet 2015-2016 Chevrolet City Express [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
