DT: CABLE FROM BATTERY TO JUNCTION BOX OVERHEATED AND STARTED A FIRE. IT MELTED THE STUD THAT BATTERY CABLE WAS CONNECTED TO, THE JUNCTION BOX AND THE AREA AROUND THE JUNCTION BOX. CALLER WAS AT A CAR WASH AND THE ATTENDENT SAW SMOKE AND ALERTED CONSUMER. THEY OPENED THE HOOD AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. MANUFACTURER SAID THEY HAD NO RECALL. *AK *NM

I STARTED MY 1994 CHEVY CAPRICE CLASSIC AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT INTO GEAR, MY CAR TOOK OFF AND SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF A HONDA.
DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER WAS 35 MPH OFF WHICH RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS GOING FASTER THAN THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED. DIGITAL GAS GAUGE ALSO FAILED TO FUNCTION WHICH RESULTED IN VEHICLE RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING ALTHOUGH THE GAUGE READ HALF OF TANK. THE CAUSE OF BOTH FAILURES WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55 ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ACCELLERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK . THE CONSUMER APPLIED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE ANDTHE VEHICLE WAS STILL GOING. CONSUMER GOT THE SPEED DOWN TO TWENTY, AND SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF.*AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND THEN SHIFTING INTO PARK, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING--DETERMINED IT WAS A FUEL PROBLEM. AFTER REMOVING THE FUEL TANK FROM A 1994 CHEVROLET CAPRICE POLICE PACKAGE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS EVIDENCE OF A SEVERE OVERHEATING/MINOR FIRE WHICH CAUSED THE MELTING OF THE INSULATION OF THE GRAY POWER WIRE AND CHAFING OF THE BLACK GROUND WIRE WHICH FEED THE FUEL PUMP. THESE TWO WIRES CAME INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER AND CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO SHORT OUT. ALL OF THIS OCCURRED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. LUCKILY, THERE WA

A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO CONSUMER NOTICED A SMELL AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE HOOD. WHILE INSPECTING THE PROBLEM CONSUMER'S FINGER WAS SUFFERELY BURNED. *AK
THE DEFECTIVE CHECK VALVE NEAR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SEPARATED, CAUSING THE ANTI-FREEZE TO SPRAY ONTO THE MANIFOLD AND CAUSED A FIRE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. POLICE DEPARTMENT HAD 30 CHECK VALVES REPLACED OUT OF 150 VEHICLES REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. *AK
AUXILLARY POSITIVE TERMINAL UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR BECAME LOOSE AND SHORTED OUT, CAUSING FIRE.
