The 1991CHEVROLETC/K PICKUPS carries 7 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1991 C/K PICKUPS is visibility:windshield wiper/washer:motor with 2 filings, followed by suspension (1) and structure:body (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 1991 C/K PICKUPS, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

MY WINDSHIELD MOTOR WENT OUT QUIT AWHILE AGO. I DRIVE WITH NO WIPERS AND CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY COME ON SOMETIMES, AND WHEN IT SEEMS TO NOT WORK IS WHEN IT RAINS. I WONDERED IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE MOTOR, OR A DEFECT THAT CAN GET IT REPLACED. ALSO MY AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT WORKING FOR THE PAST YEAR, AND BLINKING WITH THE A/C. LIGHT ON. I CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *NM

I HAVE A 1991 CHEVROLET C/K 1500, 4WD, EXTENDED CAB TRUCK PAINTED WHITE AND THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF TRUCKS IN OUR AREA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MODEL YEARS 1987 TO 1993, WHITE CHEVROLET C/K 1500 AND 2500 TRUCKS, BOTH 2WD AND 4WD ARE AFFECTED. THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER TOLD ME THAT HE WAS AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE WHITE TRUCKS BUT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO RE-PAINT THEM AS THEY WERE TOO OLD. *AK
