TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED AND SEPARATING ON THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE CRACK HAD EXTENDED TO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG HOUSING. THE LOCAL DEALER HALEY BUICK GMC AIRPORT LOCATED AT 5500 S. LABURNUM AVE, RICHMOND, VA 23231 WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

TAKATA RECALL. (THIS NOT AN ACCIDENT REPORT.) ON 2/20/17 I CALLED A LOCAL AUTHORIZED CHEV DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL ON MY TRUCK FOR AN AIRBAG DEFECT. I CALLED AGAIN TODAY, 2/20/29 ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. BOTH TIMES I HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY PARTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I WENT TO REGISTER MY VEHICLE FOR THE UPCOMING RENEWAL PERIOD MARYLAND DMV WROTE "PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL MANUFACTURERS AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE AT NO COST." SO, I AM PRETTY CONFUSED AS WHAT TO DO. IT HAD BEEN EXACTLY 2 YEARS SINCE MY FIRST NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM AND I AM STILL BEING GIVEN THE SAME ANSWER WHILE I AM ALSO STILL BEING TOLD TO CONTACT A DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS REPAIRED. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? AM I JUST BEING GIVEN THE RUNAROUND? PLEASE ADVISE AS I DO NOT WANT TO ENDANGER MY FAMILY OR ANYONE ELSE SHOULD THIS EXPLODE UNEXPECTEDLY. THANK YOU. DASHBOARD IS CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES NEAR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IT MAY EVENTUALLY CRACK ENOUGH THAT BIG PIECES WILL POP LOOSE AND CHUNKS OF MY DASH WILL BE GONE. ABS GLUE IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS TO JOIN THE SEAMS TOGETHER TO STOP THE DASH FROM SHAKING AND MAKING TONS OF NOISE. THE SHAKING LIKELY CAUSED THE CRACKS TO GROW MORE ALSO PRIOR TO ME FINALLY THROUGH LOTS OF TRIAL AND ERROR SUCCESSFULLY GLUING IT. HOPEFULLY IT WILL KEEP THE CURRENT CRACK FROM GROWING. BUT ONLY TIME WILL TELL. AND NEW ONES WILL LIKELY APPEAR IF THE OLD ONES DO NOT SPREAD. ALSO, THE AIR VENT COVER HAS BROKEN IN A LONG CRACK, AND EVEN WORSE MOST OF THE TABS THAT HOLD IT DOWN HAVE BROKEN OFF. THUS, IT STICKS UP LOOKING UGLY AND RATTLES. THIS TOO IS LIKELY TO BREAK UP MORE FROM ALL THE RATTLING.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM TWO YEARS AGO IDENTIFYING MY VEHICLE AS AFFECTED BY THE AIRBAG RECALL AND WAS ALSO INFORMED I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WOULD BE ABLE TO MAKE REPAIRS. I HAVE CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SINCE RECEIVING THE NOTICE AND I AM ALWAYS TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS AND I WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN REPAIR IS AVAILABLE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN, IF EVER, GM PLANS TO REPAIR MY VEHICLES AIRBAGS. I FEEL THAT GM IS TAKING IT'S TIME IN HOPE THAT AFFECTED VEHICLES AGE OUT AND ARE NO LONGER ON THE ROAD.
