WHEN VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON CRASH WITH A TELEPHONE POLE, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG. THE CAR WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS BY ALL STATE INSURANCE, CONSUMER CONTACTED THE G.M. MOTOR COMP. THE COMPLAINT HANDED BY THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY DEP. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THERE WAS GRAY WHITE TOXIC TYPE SMOKE COMING THROUGH VENTS OF VEHICLE. PROBLEM RESULTED IN VEHICLE BEING ENGULFED IN FLAMES. POSSIBLE CAUSE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURE AS NOTED BY GM INVESTIGATORS AND FIRE DEPARTMENT. VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *AK
