Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2022 SQ8 is engine with 2 filings, followed by vehicle speed control (1) and forward collision avoidance: warnings (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 9 investigation files overlapping the 2022 SQ8. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Water pump failure at 52,000 miles. Many other reporting same issue. Previous model years covered in a recall. This 2022 is not but should be with all the same complaints out there.

20230929VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

These vehicles are equipped with an automatic start/stop feature to save gas. This feature automatically turns off the engine when stopped at lights, traffic, etc. the problem is that once you apply the accelerator, it can take up to ~5 seconds for the vehicle to start moving and depending on how hard you depress the pedal, the vehicle can start very abruptly accelerating (almost to the point of whiplash). The most dangerous use of this system is when trying to turn left against oncoming traffic. If there is heavy traffic and a smaller gap in traffic, the delay in acceleration could lead to a collision. In fact I would be surprised if this hasn’t caused many accidents especially with less experienced drivers behind the wheel.
