The 2022AUDIQ5 SPORTBACK carries 43 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 3 crashes, 1 fire, 8 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2022 Q5 SPORTBACK is engine with 7 filings, followed by electrical system (6) and unknown or other (5). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 5 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 9 investigation files overlapping the 2022 Q5 SPORTBACK. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The Audi Lane assist persistently malfunctions and and cause the vehicle to pull towards the lane lines - and even outside of the lane lines - rather than keeping the vehicle within the lane lines as the system is intended to do. The Lane Assist malfunctions could cause an unintended collision with other vehicles, pedestrians, or other objects. On a winding mountain road, the Lane Assist malfunctions could pull the vehicle over the edge of a steep cliff, which could have catastrophic consequences. It has been at the dealership multiple times, yet the dealer has been unable to repair the defect. The dealer acknowledges that the Lane Assist system does not function properly in at least one other Audi vehicle.

The Audi Lane Assist system persistently malfunctions and has done so since March 2022. The malfunctions cause the vehicle to pull towards the lane lines - and even outside of the lane lines - rather than keeping the vehicle within the lane lines as the system is intended to do. These Lane Assist malfunctions have occurred on busy highways, winding and narrow mountain roads, and wide lanes - all of which scenarios could cause serious accidents resulting in serious bodily injury or death. The vehicle has been at the dealership multiple times - and for over 36 days - without the defect being repaired. The dealer acknowledges that the Lane Assist system does not function properly in our vehicle and noted that this is not the only vehicle for which this system does not work properly.
The vehicleâs engine failed and ignited a fire. There is an active safety recall for the engine connecting rod of this vehicle. NHTSA recall number, 22V753. My husband was assigned a loaner vehicle owned by Audi Ontario with an active manufacture safety recall. The dealership was aware of the recall. The recall was not disclosed and the defective vehicle had not been inspected or repaired by Audio Ontario. My husband and my 3 year son were in the defective vehicle on the freeway when it malfunctioned. The engine burst into flames and began to lose function while driving in the carpool lane. The engine ultimately exploded on the side of the freeway with my husband and child nearly escaping with their lives. This incident resulted in both sustaining injuries and trauma. Audi Ontarioâs negligence was reckless, dangerous, and displayed a complete disregard for human life. I believe Audi Ontarioâs should be thoroughly investigated due to the threat they pose to public safety and rec
Accident occurred in the parking lot as I was trying to park, sudden unintended acceleration occurred that caused the car to hit the building. Neither front nor back airbags deployed, as well as the automatic emergency break of the collision safety system did not work or activated to stop the car. Both my wife and I were hospitalized. The Auto emergency system of the Audi Q5 is not reliable, and the need for recall.

I'm concerned about the engine connecting rod recall. I'm not too faithful of a dealer replacing the engine if that's what needed. If it is and we have problems, I will want a new q5.
I had Recall 22V573 performed in November 2022 (see attached service record), and they found no evidence of metal in the engine. Approximately 1,000 miles later my car stopped working suddenly on the highway while driving 65 miles an hour with no warning, except 30 seconds before when some warnings flashed and back smoke started coming out the back. It was completely inoperable. This is extremely dangerous as someone could have run into me from behind. I had to push the vehicle off the highway, which is also extremely dangerous. Audi Roadside was "not available", and I had to walk to a safe area for a tow truck that took 5 hours. The recall "repair" is not enough. You cannot just look to see if there are metal shavings, and if not, assume the car will not have them in the future. ALL the engines should be replaced unless they can develop a repair for the problem that GUARANTEES this will not happen in the future. Who is to say this won't happen to someone in a year? My car has 9,000 m

A 2022 Audi Q5 PHEV abruptly stopped and displayed three warning lights on the dashboard (electrical system malfunction, drive system malfunction, and check engine light). Car was unable to move. Had the car abruptly stopped on a highway, a serious accident may have occurred. There were no prior warnings. After restarting the car several times, the malfunction messages disappeared and the check engine light stayed on. The driver drove it less than 5 miles to the dealership after contacting the dealership to provide advance notice of the carâs arrival. On the same day, the dealership said that the check engine light cleared itself and they did not find any codes to diagnose an issue. Without a diagnosis, the dealership cannot state that a similar incident would not occur in the future. After four more days with the car, the dealership maintained that there were no codes to use for a diagnosis (reported only sporadic codes and not hard codes were found) and the car was ready for pic

I have had an âopen caseâ with Audi since last April when we purchased this vehicle. 4-5 times, the car has stopped suddenly, showing âelectric malfunctionâ message on the dashboard. It happened again yesterday and I nearly missed being in a very serious accident.
The issues all relate to Audi's "Pre-Sense" system. On several occasions the car has either pulled hard and caused me to swerve - apparently incorrectly sensing that I am veering out of my lane - or has stopped suddenly - apparently incorrectly sensing that I was about to hit (or be hit by) something. These incidents have happened on the freeway, narrow mountain roads and side streets. All of these incidents could have caused serious serious bodily injury or death to persons and/or damage to property. I have been in touch with Audi numerous times and they have been unable to correct the issue.
