New Car Assessment Program

The 2000ACURATL carries 323 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 30 crashes, 6 fires, 20 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 TL is power train:automatic transmission with 81 filings, followed by air bags (48) and power train (30). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 6 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 3 investigation files overlapping the 2000 TL, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My incident that I am reporting about is regarding the safety recall on my 2000 Acura TL -Safety Recall: MULTI-MODEL NADI AIRBAG INFLATOR SAFETY RECALL H6S · Jan 22, 2020 My issue is that I have contacted the dealer in my area on multiple occasions and have been told things such as “they must order the part needed and will get back to me once it has arrived” or they aren’t sure my vehicle was effected by this recall, after I informed them I have a letter stating my vehicle is one of the vehicles effected by the recall, I have takes to multiple different people through phone calls, emails, and even third party services. They never return my calls or attempts to resolve this issue and it is a major safety concern. I don’t know how else to approach this situation.

As you are driving down the road interstate or highway the car cuts off/shuts down but everything electrical stays on inside the vehicle then you have to wait 45 minutes/ an hour and a half to get it to start back up but it will turn over and continue to turn over if you try to start it before then happens a lot here lately took it to several mechanics to see what the problem was and plug it up to the computer/code reader and it will not get past 30% while hooked up trying to read/download the codes so you can’t even find out what the issue/problem is

THE ACURA DEALERSHIP INSPECTED MY AIRBAG INFLATOR AND DENIED REPLACEMENT SINCE THE AIRBAG NUMBER ENDED WITH "00" RATHER THAN "96", "97", "98", "99". THERE IS NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY "00" IS SAFE. NO OPTION PROVIDED TO PURCHASE A NEW INFLATOR TO GUARANTEE SAFETY. NOW THEY ARE SAYING TEKATA SEATBELTS MAY ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE, AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO INSPECT SEATBELT UPON REQUEST.
