Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2019 RDX is unknown or other with 124 filings, followed by visibility/wiper (90) and engine (82). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 4 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 3 investigation files overlapping the 2019 RDX, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

the back window shattered by itself
I discovered the rear lift gate glass of my vehicle to be shattered while parked inside of my garage. There was no known external contact that impacted the glass. There is glass remaining inside of the door itself after the glass was replaced by Acura. This is an issue that is widespread on this model vehicle.
Rear back glass exploded right after parking the vehicle
The rear windshield spontaneously cracked. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle and no physical damage was done. The car was started with remote start and the rear windshield defroster turned out. After approaching the vehicle and opening the trunk, pieces of the window began to fall as it was shattered. Small vibrations made the window continue to crumble until nothing was left in the back. This has been reported to Acura who will not cover the issue even though there is a service Bulletin 22-014 stating there is a defect. Acura has stated the vehicle is not covered even though the issue is for all VINs.
Component or System Failed: Rear liftgate glass (rear window) shattered unexpectedly. The glass is available for inspection upon request. Description of Incident: Vehicle is a 2019 Acura RDX located in Massachusetts. I started the car from my remote. While the vehicle was parked, I closed the driver-side door and the rear liftgate glass immediately shattered without impact. There were no prior cracks, chips, or visible damage to the glass. The shattering appeared spontaneous and was not caused by an object strike. Safety Risk: The sudden shattering of the rear glass created a safety hazard due to flying glass fragments inside and around the vehicle. If this had occurred while driving, it could have caused driver distraction, loss of visibility, or potential injury to occupants or nearby individuals. The failure appears to be spontaneous and without warning, which raises safety concerns. Problem Reproduced or Confirmed: UNKNOWN. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer at t
My rear windshield shattered during the winter. There was no signs of any damage beforehand. There was broken glass everywhere and I couldâve seriously cut myself or anyone back there couldâve been hurt by the pieces of broken glass. I had to file a police report for my insurance. Many car dealerships are refusing to fix! Thereâs too many reports of this happening!

When I closed my driver's door, the rear window shattered. Glass came into the vehicle when this happened. I had it repaired the next day by Safelite. I made an insurance claim but still had to pay $500 deductible. There was no warning that such a break could happen. There was no prior damage to the window or tailgate at all. I see online there are other instances of this reported, but unsure why Acura hasn't done a recall or otherwise notified the owners of this danger.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact exited the vehicle, and the rear glass shattered without impact. The contact stated that a Police Report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

I had parked my vehicle in front of my house on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 1:30a.m. I had turned on my vehicle's engine via Acuralink app at 5:20p.m. on that same day. so that it can be warmed up to go to work. At 5:30p.m. I went to my vehicle and saw the rear windshield had been broken. I initially thought someone had broken into the vehicle so I immediately called my near by police station to which they told me to call 9-1-1. I called 9-1-1 and reported a police report with the officers who came to my house. I then contacted my landlord and super since the vehicle was parked in a location where it was visible to my building cameras but no one was near my vehicle during the time the rear windshield had broken. I proceeded to do my research online and discovered that this is a constant occurrence with Acura RDX models from years 2012-Current. The issue is with the defroster when the vehicle engine starts. I took my vehicle to Paragon Acura where they proceeded to take pictures of the
The rear windshield was shattered on its own. It is available to inspect. It caused glass to be scattered around & unsafe to drive. I could not see through the window. It has not yet been inspected. No warning lamps or messages. It just shattered just sitting outside my work.
Rear windshield shattered with no sign of impact. This is a known problem with this model. Luckily the window had tint so it is holding the glass together from falling into the vehicle. Vehicle was parked and unoccupied at time of this incident.
The lift gate hatch window suddenly imploded.
Was driving vehicle to work in normal weather conditions with all windows closed. Rear windshield glass shattered.
Car was parked in my garage. Rear window shattered after I entered the car and shut the car door.
Rear windshield of 2019 Acura RDX shattered while driving approximately 35 mph and the rear defroster was on. Nothing hit my car. It was extremely loud and startling. Luckily, I was on a surface street driving fairly slowly and nobody was next to me when I quickly exited the lane. Lucky no one was hurt. Despite there being a service bulletin, Acura refused to assist in the repair.
