Investigation Summary

ON FEBRUARY 21, 1996, AMSOIL CONDUCTED A SERVICE RECALL OF ALL HOSES CODED BP-181 WHICH WERE INCLUDED WITH THEIR BYPASS FILTRATION KITS. AMSOIL FAILED TO NOTIFY ODI OF THEIR RECALL, AND ODI RECEIVED A FORWARDED COMPLAINT, ORIGINALLY FILED WITH THE WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, TRADE, AND CONSUMER PROTECTION BY A DISGRUNTLED CONSUMER. INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE WAS A LETTER FROM AMSOIL TO ALL AMSOIL DISTRIBUTORS CITING THE SERVICE RECALL. ODI IS CONCERNED WITH THE FAILURE OF THE SPECIFIED HOSE BECAUSE SUCH A FAILURE COULD RESULT IN FIRES DUE TO OIL LEAKAGE ON TO, OR THE SUDDEN SEIZURE OF THE ENGINE, LEADING TO LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND POSSIBLE COLLISIONS AND HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS. DUE TO ODI INTERVENTION, AMSOIL HAS FILED A SAFETY DEFECT REPORT AND NOTIFIED BOTH AMSOIL DEALERS AND AMSOIL REGIONAL PRODUCT CENTERS OF THE DEFECT.
