2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE — Complaint #939238
Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH filed September 13, 2012
NHTSA complaint #939238 (ODI reference 10475283) concerns a 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE and was filed on September 13, 2012. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 15, 2012. The vehicle had 56,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Minnesota based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as exterior lighting:brake lights:switch, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI SANTA FE cohort independently describe similar exterior lighting:brake lights:switch failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH A/B. OBD CODES P0571 & P0504 RECORDED. SYMPTOMS: BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT LIGHT WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD TURN ON BUT NOT ALLOW A SPEED TO BE SET. ALSO ESC OFF LIGHT REMAINED ON DASH SOLID. SEEMS TO BE EXACT SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V122000. WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THAT RECALL FROM HYUNDAI. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. WHEN I CONTACTED HYUNDAI SUPPORT I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I SEE NUMEROUS OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WERE ALSO TOLD THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THEIR VEHICLE (VIA INTERNET REPORTS). I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE APPLIED TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE PART MYSELF AND THE REPAIR SEEMS TO HAVE CORRECTED ALL THE SYMPTOMS. THE REMOVED PART IS A GENUINE PART OF HYUNDAI/KIA. IT IS P/N 92810-3K000. BELOW THE P/N IS ">PA66-GF30<" AND "INFAC". THERE IS A RED AND A GREEN STRIPE PAINTED ACR
