NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:CENTER SUPPORT BEARING filed July 21, 2011

NHTSA complaint #868693 (ODI reference 10413899) concerns a 2006 SATURN VUE and was filed on July 21, 2011. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 6, 2011. The vehicle had 53,731 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Michigan based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:driveline:center support bearing, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same SATURN VUE cohort independently describe similar power train:driveline:center support bearing failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2006 SATURN VUE shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR TORQUE CONVERTER. WHILE IN THE REPAIR SHOP IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CENTER SUPPORT BEARING FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS COMING APART, IE: RUBBER BUSHING WAS SEPARATING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WAS ALSO TOLD THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS WERE SEPARATING. THE COST FOR THE BEARING WAS BETWEEN $450. AND $500. DOLLARS, THE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS REPAIR WOULD BE $280. DOLLARS. I BELIEVE THESE PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE AS THE CAR ONLY HAS 53,731 MILES ON IT. THE BEARING DEFECT WILL CAUSE A VIBRATION OF THE DRIVE SHAFT AS IT BECOMES WORSE. THE CONTROL ARMS WILL CAUSE A CLUNK WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. *KB
