Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER:LPG SYSTEMS:TANK ASSEMBLY filed July 18, 2011

NHTSA complaint #867908 (ODI reference 10413472) concerns a 2007 NISSAN XTERRA and was filed on July 18, 2011. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 14, 2011. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems:tank assembly, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same NISSAN XTERRA cohort independently describe similar equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems:tank assembly failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I HAVE A 2007 XTERRA WITH 42K. I FILLED IT AT THE GAS STATION AND NOTICED RIGHT AFTER LEAVING THE STATION THAT THE GAUGE STILL SAID A QUARTER OF A TANK. SO I PULLED OVER AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED IT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON. AS I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE GAUGE SLOWLY STARTED RISING TO THE FULL MARK. MY CAR DIDN'T PASS STATE REGISTRATION WITH THE SES ON. *KB
