Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER:LPG SYSTEMS:TANK ASSEMBLY filed January 16, 2011
NHTSA complaint #837033 (ODI reference 10376847) concerns a 2005 DODGE DURANGO and was filed on January 16, 2011. The owner reports the failure occurred on January 14, 2011. The report was geocoded to Virginia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems:tank assembly, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: yes, fire: no, injuries: 1, fatalities: 0. A complaint that flags a crash, fire, or fatality is escalated on NHTSA's internal review queue and factors more heavily into any Preliminary Evaluation decision on this make and model. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE DURANGO cohort independently describe similar equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems:tank assembly failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2005 DODGE DURANGO shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description

AT TIMES,WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR WILL TURN OFF BY ITSELF IF I AM MOVING SLOWLY. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN 2006. THE FIRST YEAR, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR STALLING ON ITS OWN. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO AND THE CAR DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN ABOUT THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND EVERY TIME, NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. AFTER THAT I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY OR THE TIME TO CONTINUE BRINGING THE TRUCK IN FOR A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS SAYING THEY COULD NOT FIND. OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE JUST DEALT WITH THIS TRUCK STALLING ON ITS OWN. ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STARTED SPILLING OUT GAS IF IT WAS FILLED UP. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL UNTIL I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE. I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A REC
