2005 HONDA ACCORD — Complaint #822287

Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about AIR BAGS:FRONTAL filed October 26, 2010

NHTSA complaint #822287 (ODI reference 10362455) concerns a 2005 HONDA ACCORD and was filed on October 26, 2010. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 20, 2010. The vehicle had 81,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to New York based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as air bags:frontal, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HONDA ACCORD cohort independently describe similar air bags:frontal failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR (SPS) WIRING HARNESS IN MY 2005 HONDA ACCORD IS BROKEN CAUSING THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED AND THE SPS TO FAIL. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYMPTOM IS IDENTICAL TO THAT ADDRESSED BY RECALL NUMBER: 07V001000, WHICH APPLIED TO CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 HONDA ACCORDS. HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HONDA RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT THE OMISSION OF MY 2005 HONDA ACCORD'S VIN FROM RECALL NUMBER 07V001000 IS IN ERROR AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED. THE HONDA DEALER CHANGED AN INITIAL $95.07 FOR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, AND HAS OFFERED TO INSTALL A NEW WIRING HARNESS AT MY EXPENSE. AT THIS TIME NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. THE FAULTY WIRING HARNESS IS STILL INSTALLED AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS STILL ILLUMINATED AND THE SPS IS STILL IN FAILURE MODE. *TR
