Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION filed August 4, 2010

NHTSA complaint #804330 (ODI reference 10347373) concerns a 2007 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER and was filed on August 4, 2010. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 31, 2010. The vehicle had 37,500 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to 00 based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:manual transmission, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHRYSLER PT CRUISER cohort independently describe similar power train:manual transmission failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

2007 CHRYSLER T CRUISER. CLUTCH FAILS TO DISENGAGE RESULTING IN DRIVER BEING UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS ON THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND RESULTING IN DIFFICULTY IN STOPPING THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM IS A RESULT OF THE PRESSURE PLATE FAILING AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH PRESSURE PLATE FAILURE IS ALMOST UNHEARD OF IN MOST CARS. MOST OWNERS ARE UNAWARE OF THE ACTUAL CAUSE AND TRY REPAIRING THE HYDRAULIC PORTION OF THE CLUTCH SYSTEM. THIS APPEARS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE PT CRUISER WHEN ONE CHECKS ON THE INTERNET AND SHOULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES. *TR
