Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER:LPG SYSTEMS filed May 12, 2010
NHTSA complaint #787076 (ODI reference 10330158) concerns a 2008 DODGE AVENGER AWD and was filed on May 12, 2010. The owner reports the failure occurred on May 12, 2010. The vehicle had 52,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same DODGE AVENGER AWD cohort independently describe similar equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer:lpg systems failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
I PURCHASED A 2008 DODGE AVENGER ABOUT A YEAR AGO, A FEW DAYS AFTER I GOT THE CAR THE GEAR SHIFT GOT STUCK AND I COULDN'T GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SALES GUY WHO SOLD ME MY CAR TOLD ME THAT I WAS PROBABLY DOING SOMETHING WRONG, ABOUT AN 15MINS LATER THE CAR WENT IN TO DRIVE, AND I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TODAY I TRIED TO UP MY CAR IN DRIVE AND IT WOULDN'T GOING IN TO DRIVE AT ALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO GO THROUGH DODGE BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF THE 30DAYS. I THEN CALLED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $1300 TO GET MY CAR FIXED. *TR
