NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC filed April 21, 2008
NHTSA complaint #666571 (ODI reference 10225232) concerns a 2008 SATURN SKY and was filed on April 21, 2008. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 21, 2008. The vehicle had 15 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Connecticut based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same SATURN SKY cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2008 SATURN SKY shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
SINCE PURCHASING THE 2008 SATURN SKY IN SEPTEMBER 2007 THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR MUST WARM UP BEFORE THE BRAKES WORK PROPERLY. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND I WAS ADVISED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. RECENTLY THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AT 65 MPH. THE CRUISE DID NOT SHUT OFF, THE BRAKES DID NOT EVEN SLOW THE VEHICLE. EVERY TIME THE CAR HAS GONE BACK TO THE DEALER THEY TELL ME THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM. LAST WEEK THEY ADVISED THAT THEY HAD TO RE-CALIBRATE THE BRAKES- THIS DID NOT WORK, I STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR, I HAVE NOT USED THE CRUISE CONTROL SINCE. *TR
