Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER filed April 10, 2008

NHTSA complaint #665237 (ODI reference 10224155) concerns a 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER and was filed on April 10, 2008. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 23, 2008. The vehicle had 35 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to New Jersey based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as engine and engine cooling:engine:other fuel types:turbo/supercharger, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: yes, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. A complaint that flags a crash, fire, or fatality is escalated on NHTSA's internal review queue and factors more heavily into any Preliminary Evaluation decision on this make and model. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER cohort independently describe similar engine and engine cooling:engine:other fuel types:turbo/supercharger failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.

Complaint Description

MY MITSIBISHI SUV OUTLANDER LS 2007 HAD FAILED TO STOP ABOUT BETWEEN 20-30 FT. FROM THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. WHEN I TRIED TO STOP IN A SUDDEN MOVE, THE ANTI-SKID AND ANTI-LOCK PLUS ABS SYSTEM FAILED. I HIT THE OTHER VEHICLES REAR BUMPER AND MY SUV BUMPER GOT HIT AND WITHIN FEW SECONDS THE WHOLE SUV CAUGHT IN FIRE AND BURNT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO COLLECT MY ITEMS FROM THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR. THERE'S AN ISSUE WITH AN ENGINE DESIGN ALSO. I NEED NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE AND PUSH MITSIBISHI TO INVESTIGATE TO SAVE OTHER PEOPLE'S LIFE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
