Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DRUM filed January 28, 2008
NHTSA complaint #655296 (ODI reference 10216235) concerns a 2004 ISUZU RODEO and was filed on January 28, 2008. The owner reports the failure occurred on July 2, 2007. The vehicle had 40,489 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, air:drum, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same ISUZU RODEO cohort independently describe similar service brakes, air:drum failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
WE PURCHASED A 2004 RODEO FROM HONDA AT THEIR USED CAR SERVICE. THE STICKER HAD ON IT AS IS WARRANTY. UPON RETURNING HOME WE NOTICED THE PAPERWORK WE SIGNED DID NOT HAVE A SIGNATURE ON IT. BUT IT FELT DIFFERENT WHEN DRIVEN. THE NEXT DAY I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS LEANING SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT. I WENT AND SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER AND EXPLAINED IT TO HIM AND HE INFORMED ME TO BRING IT IN THE NEXT DAY AND THEY WOULD PUT IT UP AND LOOK AT IT. THE NEXT DAY I WAS ILL AND CALLED AND WENT THE FOLLOWING WEEK. ANOTHER MANAGER DID NOT DO THAT, BUT RATHER DROVE IT AND SAID IT FELT FINE. I INSISTED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. HE STATED HE COULD HEAR NOTHING.A WEEK LATER IT IS RAINING HEAVILY AND THIS CAR IS VERY UNSTABLE FEELING. I CALL THE SALESMAN AND TELL HIM THAT THE STEERING FEELS LOOSE AND AND SOMETHING IS WR
