Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY:REAR WINDOW WIPER/WASHER:SWITCH/WIRING filed November 27, 2007
NHTSA complaint #647583 (ODI reference 10210035) concerns a 1994 CHEVROLET C/K PICKUPS and was filed on November 27, 2007. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 26, 2007. The vehicle had 100,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Alabama based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility:rear window wiper/washer:switch/wiring, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET C/K PICKUPS cohort independently describe similar visibility:rear window wiper/washer:switch/wiring failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 1994 CHEVROLET C/K PICKUPS shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
MY WIPERS WORK AT TIMES, HOWEVER MOST OF THE TIME I CANNOT GET THEM TO WORK AT ALL. I HAVE THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL THAT IS INCLUDED IN RECALL# 03V159000. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO MY VIN, MY TRUCK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THE RECALL IS DUE TO A DEFECT WHICH IF PRESENT WILL CAUSE YOUR WIPERS TO DO EXACTLY WHAT MY WIPERS ARE DOING. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY THE SAME ISSUE ON MORE VIN'S THAN ORIGINALLY CONSIDERED. GM/CHEVROLET SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE ALL OF THESE DEFECTIVE WIPER MOTOR COMPONENTS. IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR WIPERS STOP WORKING FOR THEM NOT TO. *TR
